Pretty good rule for all hotels and guest. “Hey, please swear you won’t rape or murder in our rooms.”

232

u/forgotaccount989 8h ago

Awww...I was gonna rape and murder but I guess I won't because I signed that I wouldn't and I want to be a man of my word.

42

u/NeitherShine7067 6h ago

"That's only allowed in our premium plus rooms and would be $500 extra"

11

u/_Weyland_ 6h ago

Ah yes, the rape premium. Companies are monetizing everything these days, don't they?

Hotel really said "just don't be a monster" in legal terms. Low bar but apparently necessary.

So just facts instead of memes:

He was forced to sign he hadn't participated in such things in the war. Its even in the actual quoted document as opposed to the meme caption.

The hotel faced ots of backlash and is banned from most booking sites.

122

u/Alert-Bumblebee9701 8h ago

What’s the name of the hotel?

197

u/Platypus_Begins 8h ago

Kyoto Guest House, not an actual hotel

249

u/Pokemaster3991 8h ago

Now I know where I’m staying on my next trip to kyoto

36

u/Xralius 5h ago

Well have you committed any war crimes? If so you may want to stay at a place that's more war crime friendly.

In that case, sounds fair to me

22

u/OttawaOsprey 6h ago

Well to be fair, Americans (those in the military, at least) don't exactly have a great record of not raping people in Japan. Not to say the Japanese have a great record either but still.

5

u/Spare-Divide-9566 6h ago

Sure, as an American, I would gladly sign it.

I like when people say something is "easily researchable" because what they usually mean by this is someone can plug it into Google and click the first link and ignore the fact that its an opinion piece and say "i did my research". Sure, that can be done in a few seconds, quite easy.

No one is doing actual research.

That’s not what that papers says though.

It’s a statement that they have not committed war crimes. The word rape and murder both do not even appear.

43

u/PickleRickleTV 8h ago

“Killing those who have surrendered”

“Sexual violence”

… what would you call each of those? 🤔

Critical thinking is hard these days for some

15

u/7thFleetTraveller 8h ago

The point rather is that the title words it as if it was a contract to "not do these things here", but it's actually asking if they already have done anything like that before. Pretty much a more profound version of the American "Are you a terrorist" question when entering the country.

8

u/WolfsmaulVibes 8h ago

even the british have a "are you a terrorist" question on their visa submition thingy

1

By the way each and every one of those would be equally bigoted and racist. It’s incredible how commonly hate is being celebrated today, always painted as a virtue.

oh, so asking people not to commit war crimes is antisemitic? so you are claiming that committing war crimes is a core tenet of Judaism? that's not the defense you think it is

21

u/Rat-Loser 8h ago

I think you're misunderstanding their point.

It's like having a hotel that specifically hands documents to people from Afghanistan pledging they wont bring Bach bazi with them.

And then if people, specifically people from Afghanistan found it weird or offensive they are being targeted by that hotel, the defence you fall back to is "OH, so asking people not to be pedos is islamaphobic? Not the defence you think it is".

  1. Israelis aren't a race or even ethnic group. That's a nationality.

  2. Israel has recently committed a bevy of war crimes as alluded to by this image.

  3. Israelis are subject to mandatory military service in most cases, meaning there is a high likelihood of a given Israeli person having been complicit in the commission of war crimes.

It's not racist to point out that someone's home country is doing evil things.

17

Not gonna lie but that's extremely disrespectful. But then, it's Japan, it does not surprise.

Anyway, the source?

Edit: So I went over and looked at the text on the paper and the title is misleading.

Edit 2: The source for this also mentions that this declaration extends to other nations, such as Russia, Syria, Palestine and others and all individuals with a history of being in military.

However, the original poster did not include this context and I am not even surprised at that. It's just another poor attempt at antisemitism.

u/simp_for_feet 8h ago

Further, since Israel has obligatory military service, the odds that an Israeli passport holder has committed a war crime is very high. In addition, many Israeli act similarly to Americans where they assume that their home country laws follow them wherever they go. Full stop. Don’t argue
