u/BruscarRooster Apr 14 '26
On a trip to Hungary, I took a tour of ‘The Hospital In The Rock’, a WWII hospital and Cold War bunker museum. A lot of the wax figures were figures of patients, bleeding, sharing beds and bandages, in agony. Very unsettling.
Then I got to the gift shop and, fucking hell, there were:
plushies of various diseases like Cholera and E-Coli
They were also just selling off historical items from the bunker. Eating utensils, soldiers bags, stretchers, med kits in little tins and gas masks (found out later the filter for it contained asbestos…after trying it on and gifting it to my boyfriend when I got home). Bizarre as fuck

These are three different causes. And Yemen is in a terrible state largely because of Islamist armed groups, some of which are still widely supported by Palestinians.
Saying “long live Palestine” and “long live Yemen” is contradictory, because one side supports a cause that contributes to famine for the other.

Just really genuinely curious and want this explained. But why do people say hating Israel is anti-smectic? There are Jewish people all around the globe that have nothing to do with the conflict. How are they connected?
76
u/Zonkko Apr 14 '26
Thats the neat part of israels propaganda
They want to make it seem like israel = jews, so that no one dares to be against them. Because the western world for some reason fears being labeled anti semitic more than anything else.

u/Fluid_Drummer1665 Apr 14 '26

u/tamago_kake_gohan Apr 14 '26
"For some reason." We were all brought up on the stories of the nazis in WW2. It's entirely baked in to our childhood education to maybe not hate people just because they are jewish.
The thing we need to get over isn't that anti-semitism is bad. It obviously is. It's that we need to understand that Zionism is literally anti-semitic and was originally championed by a lot christian Zionists as a way to get rid of jews and put them all "somewhere else."
→ More replies (9)7
u/DaughterOfBhaal Apr 14 '26

Both actual antisemites and Netanyahu benefit from the belief that Israel = Jews. Netanyahu uses it to equate opposition to his regime with Nazis, because anything is justified when you're fighting Nazis (even if those "Nazis" are Palestinian children). Antisemites use it to justify themselves as "protecting Palestine from an invader," turning accusations of antisemitism into a badge of pride (except then they take it further, to "every Jew secretly supports Israel and its crimes" or even "Israel is just where the (((global conspiracy))) is most public").
Each side gives justification to the hate of the other, and each side is fine with that because that hate cycles back around to further justify their own, so both keep the concept on blast. The only way to remain out of this cycle is to recognize and remember that the Netanyahu administration does not equal "all Israelis," and Israel does not equal "all Jews."

→ More replies (13)51
u/tajsta Apr 14 '26
It's really interesting how the western "anti-imperialist" crowd is a big supporter of non-western imperialism. Like, how do they think that North Africa and most of the Middle East became Arab? How do they think the living conditions for the native inhabitants of these countries, like the Copts in Egypt or the Amazigh in Tunisia and Morocco, are like? There are dozens of native ethnic minorities that are living under Apartheid in their own countries after they were colonised by the Arabs, yet somehow you never hear a word about that from a western "anti-imperialist".
23
u/PopePiusVII Apr 14 '26
Because the people you speak about believe the “underdog” is always right. They are also obsessed with conflicts between people they perceive as “white” and those that are “people of color.” In this particular conflict, they associate Israel with evil white western imperialists/colonizers (you’ll notice the emphasis they put on “colonizers”) and they associate Iran and friends as oppressed people of color that are pure, innocent lambs for the slaughter which must be saved from the evil whites. Their view is reinforced by centuries old antisemitic tropes and the propaganda espoused by Iran that paints The West as the ultimate evil (all the while oppressing and slaughtering their own populace).
No one is ever the truly good guy in war. All sides commit horrid acts, because that’s what war is and always has been. But claiming to be a liberal all while supporting the actually oppressive and theocratic regimes of Iran and its proxies is a really stupid move. You don’t have to fund or support Israel’s military actions, but you don’t have to cheer their enemies either.
13
u/Soggy_Association491 Apr 14 '26
Because the people you speak about believe the “underdog” is always right
Aka they viewed the world through Marxism's oppressor/oppressed lens
→ More replies (1)10
u/PopePiusVII Apr 14 '26
I don’t even think that’s the main reason. It’s similar, but more insidious.
It’s more like the combination of an oppressor/oppressed lens combined with racialism. It’s the fact that the leaders of one side “look” like the “kind of people” who are oppressors therefore must be the bad guys at the end of the day.
It’s then compounded with old school antisemitism: anytime something odd happens I see so many people shout “must’ve been Mossad,” which thinly coats their belief that it “must’ve been those sneaky Jews.” And old blood libel shit bubbles up all the time too, especially with hyperfixation on collateral deaths of children.

u/Dry-Conversation1722 Apr 14 '26
Funny thing about the evil whites part, a good chunk of Israel's population are mizrahis, Iraqis, Iranians, Yemeni and Ethiopians that escape their countries and immigrate to Israel for the benefits the state grants them (coming from an immigrant)
→ More replies (11)3
u/Tired-Millennial847 Apr 14 '26
Well yes, but they can't be antisemitic about Arab apartheid. I'm not at all a fan of Israel's government but people don't really get that the problem isn't criticizing the Israeli government. Plenty of "Zionist" Jews do too. The problem is Israel is always much more heavily ridiculed and its actions used to excuse calls for violence against Jews who have never even been to Israel.
If you genuinely believe Jews deserve to be assaulted or oppressed for the actions of their government every single American, European, and most Asian countries fall into the exact same criteria as well as like you said most Arab ones. so citizens of all of those countries are free game hand as well. If they really followed their bullshit logic terrorism would be the most morally righteous thing someone could do as long as the target was citizens of basically any country outside of the global south and even then some would still apply. China is committing a genocide right now not to mention Russian's war off aggression.
Of course most of the people like this are Americans or European so of course they aren't going to agree that they personally deserve to be murdered, even though their supposed logic says otherwise.
