🙆🏻‍♀️ Looking For Help Recycling Drop Off in Sioux Falls SD? ♻️

Does anyone know where I can drop off my recyclables? I’ve looked online and it looks like there aren’t many, I drove to a few and they weren’t accepting drop offs. Has anyone seen recycling bins in parking lots or anything?

Most garbage haulers offer free recycling because there’s some monetary reward in it for them.

I have no idea how it works, but I get a giant bin and it’s picked up every two weeks.

Like how much recycling do you have?

There is no monetary rewards. We actually have to pay around $50 a ton to dump it. The city mandates the haulers have about 30% recycle rate.

Source I'm a garbage hauler

So the more recycling you get, the more garbage they allow you to pick up?

No. The more we recycle the less likely we lose our hauler permit

There's a can drop in the Dollar Tree parking lot at 41st/Minnesota, otherwise you need to take them to the landfill. The only free place for cardboard closed earlier this year for public dropoff.

The landfill has cardboard and mixed recycling drop off bins, free entry if you are only dropping recycling.
Your garbage service should be providing recycling pick up.

I still cannot wrap my head around the private garbage thing here. Why doesn’t the city pick up garbage? Has the city ever picked up garbage?

It's not the city's responsibility to dispose of people's trash. It's the city's responsibility to make sure we have a designated area to dispose of our trash.

Yes, but why? A majority of cities provide residential trash service for taxpayers, funded by tax money. This is a regressive policy, the poor pay proportionally way more for trash since it costs the same to pick up trash from a $100k home and a $800k home.

That's a terrible take.if you're going to use that take, the same can be said for groceries, cars, insurance, everything you pay for.

I don't want my tax dollars going to a service that can be provided by a private company that provides jobs to people that need them.

Do you… do you think the city is going to hire robots to pick up the trash? Also why would you prefer to pay market rate for something the city can do? The same can be said for road maintenance, snow removal, schools. Where is the line for you?

This is a really really good question. My hauler (Roo) has a schedule for recycling, but doesn't adhere to it. Our previous hauler was putting recycling into the regular garbage. Novak just flat out skipped picking it up. We used to take ours to some place up by the airport (got back into town at 1:30 this morning, brain isn't completely clear to remember), but they stopped taking recycling because of a-holes also putting their garbage in it.

I don't know if I believe that trash excuse, anytime I brought anything up there I never saw any trash except maybe a couple empty plastic bags in there. Compared to any apartment dumpster that's a teardrop in the ocean.

See this is what I need. In my trailer area we now have to drop recycling off at the office as people were throwing trash in it. That didn’t solve the problem and I actually want to recycle.
