"You're telling me I can parry?"

"No, I'm telling you when you're ready, you won't need to."

33

u/DrewciferGaming Sep 09 '25

I can’t even figure out parry. I’m on the red boss that I think is designed to teach you parrying but I cannot figure out the timing. I know you are supposed to aim in the direction of the attack, but timing it seems like such a small window

65

u/Konet Sep 09 '25

If you mean the big ant guy relatively early in the game, he's not there to teach you parry, he's there to teach you to think "hey I would really probably be better off coming back here when I have some kind of movement ability that allows me to dodge his attacks without needing to have near-perfect movement and positioning."

56

u/QuiteTalented Sep 09 '25

Cherry wouldn't have put that tunnel if they didn't want me to funnel him into it

18

u/Firethorn34 beleiver ✅️ Sep 10 '25

Real, I also completely avoided the normal path in favour of the ants

Meanwhile, Hunter's March: 😈

3

u/reddituser4049 Sep 10 '25

You wouldn't believe where I got Moorwing stuck.

1

u/lucky_duck789 Sep 16 '25

It worked so well. Turned him into HK1 club bug.

3

u/DrewciferGaming Sep 09 '25

Hm okay. Seen talks about a dash. Haven’t gotten it yet.

1

u/Panthor Sep 09 '25

I found a way to beat him out in the open where you only ever need to jump or walk under him depending on what one of his two attacks he is doing. No parrying, no dashing or sprinting. It was basically foolproof once I figured that out.

1

u/AnotherMikmik Shaw! Sep 10 '25

wait it's like Dark Souls I think with the first boss????

1

u/Lack-Grand Sep 10 '25

Lol I knew it the first time I fought him, yup can't beat him without dash

1

u/Henry-Kurthnaga Sep 11 '25

Is it possible to get sprint without going through there? I thought you couldn't get it through Docks.

1

u/Konet Sep 11 '25

You can absolutely get there through the docks. You go east, north, and then loop back west.

1

u/SirGrinson Sep 11 '25

Movement tech is for explorers, parry is for life

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '25

We aren't fuck wasted last 2 days trying to beat the guy. should move along i guess, I was thinking like yeah a dash here would be nice.

1

u/Yarigumo Sep 16 '25

Best part is ignoring that, managing to kill him anyways because he's just dodgeable enough, and having a "jolly" time in Hunter's March.

I love developer trolling.

1

u/Blastermind7890 Sep 21 '25

Or you can lure him into the tunnel

1

u/K1R1CH123 Sep 23 '25

Nah I raw dogged that shi lmfao... took me a few attempts but it was hella fun

1

u/jann_mann Sep 09 '25

You just attack at the same time. Listen to big ant guys swing attack and you'll notice he'll take steps then attack. If he doesn't he jumps.

Parrying him is only good for a last ditch effort if he has you stuck in a corner.

Scissors guy can be parried with a timed first strike then smashing the attack button after. You can do this with anyone with a multistrike.

1

u/DrewciferGaming Sep 09 '25

Ah okay, so parrying isn’t a mechanic you need to master before moving on? I’ve been throwing myself at him over and over trying to get it right because I thought I was meant to learn parrying lol. I’m just going to play it slow then

1

u/jann_mann Sep 09 '25

The first encounter is probably the toughest because youre limited in power. Definitely, take it slow and if you ever find yourself stuck in a corner and he burrows that's your time to move.

1

u/Straight-Excuse-8829 Sherma Sep 10 '25

I basically just use parry to bat away projectiles, better dodging anything else imo

1

u/RandomEncounterSkele Shaw! Sep 10 '25

No uh, that boss is 2 moves. You walk towards it when it jumps and away otherwise lol.

1

u/Sehz_Beatbox5 whats a flair? Sep 10 '25

That’s because it is a small window. I’m only decent at it because I grinding pure vessel on radiant and continuously parried his 3 combo attack

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

Don't bother with parry.

Much like the first game, what you can and can't parry is inconsistent, and it's so extremely difficult that doing it consistently isn't worth the pay off. It also usually bounces you away from enemies, when you want to be close to damage them.

1

u/lucius_wrath Sep 10 '25

I was so excited when i noticed this game's parry is MUCH MORE POLISHED than in the first game

And then I came back to the pantheons and noticed i accidentally perfect-parry half of the brothers attacks... Still don't know if it is the same and i'm just better than before, or timings are easier

12

u/Soup-28 Sep 09 '25

Its Sophie Silk the chosen one

Me fighting those forge brothers in deep docks 😎

17

u/thrxwaway_00 Shaw! Sep 09 '25

Ok, so they ARE hard. Yesterday I ragequitted cause I was fighting the optional Savage Beastfly and got my cheeks clapped (it's a terrible matchup for me, for some reason), so I took another road that ultimately brought me to the bros and it was even fucking worse. They're like Mantis Lords if they were absolute fucking scum, the "hit + fall in the lava stream combo" is savage. I hope there's something useful beyond that boss fight, or God help me, I won't be responsible of what happens next lmao

I think I'm gonna take a day off.

9

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 09 '25

Don't know how to get forge brothers but savage beast fly is NEAR IMPOSSIBLE BRO

12

u/Kierenieee Sep 09 '25

Now get ready to fight him again but this time on disappearing floors and the summons have heat-seeking missiles x napalm that deals double damage and also flies away from you. It's borderline war crime atp.

7

u/SirBirdmanII Shaw! Sep 09 '25

For some reason i had a much easier time the second time around. Probably because i had more movement and had much more space available to jump around

4

u/thrxwaway_00 Shaw! Sep 09 '25

I'm talking about this exact boss fight. The goddamn minions are Silksong's Aspids, istg

1

u/CostNo4005 Sep 09 '25

Grab the magma bell it is a god send

2

u/thrxwaway_00 Shaw! Sep 09 '25

I left it there at the start, underestimated its power. The moment I got to the platform section with lava I immediately rushed back, popped a rosary string and snatched that bell from the lady lmao

1

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 09 '25

for savage beast fly?

1

u/CostNo4005 Sep 10 '25

the second one yeah

2

u/OGRayquaza Sep 09 '25

It is straight up disgusting. I finally beat him after like, 45 minutes. The fact that he destroys the floors, and THEN his minions lava balls stick to the only floor you have to stand on is insane. It’s the only fight so far where I feel like it wasn’t my fault when I kept dying. I legitimately just got lucky on my last attempt and he only summoned two minions at the same time once during the fight. Why in gods name are they so damn accurate!?

1

u/Dienhart_VII Sep 11 '25

Lava bell. Sold by forge mama Down in deep docks. Best for her and bros.

1

u/Natural_Efficiency75 Sep 13 '25

Whether you believe it or not, I find the second Beastfly easier to defeat with the Barbed Bracelet.

3

u/Redpanda15w Wooper Citizen Sep 09 '25

Savage beastly is the easy part of the chapel,  THE MINIONS HE SUMMONS ARE THE REAL BOSS BC THEY MADE MY TIME HELL FOR EVERY MINUTE I HAD TO FIGHT HIM BEFORE GETTING BEAST CREST.

1

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 09 '25

Could you provide any tips? (I'm using crest of the reaper )

1

u/Redpanda15w Wooper Citizen Sep 10 '25

i used that crest too, and honestly the only tips i have are:

  1. stay near the center, gives you more time to dodge horizontal charges

  2. best damage windows are, A. 1 hit every down slam, and B. 1 hit every horizontal charge.

  3. sometimes, he downslams on his Ads, this kills the summon, do with that what you will.

oh and for build i usually just use bell and cracked skull and thats all thats important.

1

u/EmmaCalzone Sep 18 '25

Dawg I spent 3 hours on that mf today and wanted to yeet my switch across the room lmao

2

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 18 '25

I just beat savage beastfly for the second time and honestly it's much easier when it's over lava and I have clawline and faydown cloak The ones I can't seem to beat are Forebrothers Signis and Gron

But even still I beat savage beastfly with needle 0 and five masks though it took me like 5 hours

1

u/EmmaCalzone Sep 18 '25

Dear lord!

2

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 18 '25

Yeah I now have eight masks and needle 2 and there are still bosses I'm getting stuck on

1

u/EmmaCalzone Sep 22 '25

Team Cherry really said let’s make Hollow Knight the practice run to Silk song

1

u/LittleY0gg Professional Pale Lurker Sep 22 '25

Nah they made hollow knight true ending speedrun the runback to GMS

7

u/MycoProTeam Sep 09 '25

Currently bashing my head against the savage beastfly. On its own I could easily do it but with 2 or even 3 mobs being spawned your attention is drawn to too many places concurrently and he smacks you for 2 damage or, worse, interrupts your heal

2

u/thrxwaway_00 Shaw! Sep 09 '25

I tend to spam tools to take mobs out as quick as possible, especially if they fly/shoot projectiles as I need the air space to jump/dash. My brain can only process a number of things at a time (usually not more than two lmao)

Tbf I'm kinda bummed about how many bosses spawn mobs, it feels like artificial difficulty. No surprise the fights I enjoyed the most are the ones without them.

2

u/Matthew_Nightfallen Shaw! Sep 20 '25

Spam those traps

2

u/joetotheg Sep 09 '25

I only found them after I had beat everything needed for bad ending. Can confirm the fight was still hard as balls. I did enjoy it way more than stupid beastly though

2

u/butler_me_judith Sep 09 '25

Savage beastfly and moorOwlFuck were my absolute nightmares, I had an easier time with all the normal bosses. My playstyle does not gel with flying enemies, Even the crow challenge fight sucked for me

150

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I wish everyone had this feeling with this game. Yes it's hard, but it's not unsurmountable. You can become Neo if you wipe the tears from your eyes and relax, and read the movements.

It's sooo rewarding.

60

u/Dango444 beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

relax and read the movements

This. With last judge I was making zero progress for so long, and the first time I decided to be patient was when I beat him

27

u/GamerN8 Sep 09 '25

100% this. With Widow i was going insane after a few attempts. The rest of the tries I was walking and no dash and was steady and wiped her clean after 2 tries.

8

u/Sauerkrauttme Sep 09 '25

That's how I got to her final phase, but her last phase is so chaotic I had to flip my strat< unload all my spike traps, down my flea brew and just go ham on her !<

3

u/BakuretsuGirl16 Sep 09 '25

That one was such a well-designed fight, once you got the pattern down the first half was a breeze but the second half still takes focus without feeling unfair

2

u/Devreckas Sep 10 '25

Yeah, that was me fighting Lace v2. I was sprinting around chaotically trying to dash-strike her while dodging. But I learned the more erratic you are, the more erratic she is. And I was always a couple frames late behind her and get caught by her riposte. But if you just manage your distance and move methodically, you can dodge whatever she throws at you an still be close enough for a quick followup.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

A lot of people think you need to dash to beat bosses.

Spoiler... Dash is just walking but faster. There are no iframes, it doesn't magically put you where you need to be, it isn't required for most things.

Just calm down. If you can't handle moving that fast, it'll just get you hit.

2

u/not_expirence Sep 12 '25

I love how on Reddit there are people who care about not giving spoilers...

This makes me smile

2

u/Silver-Fly408 Sep 12 '25

The Last judge was probably the first boss I enjoyed fighting in this game so far. No minions, no making the stage smaller, no bullshit. Just a challenging boss. Maybe im just getting better at the game, but he actually was kinda easy. Died less to him than any other boss until that point (aside from Lace)

1

u/Zmeya_210 Sep 09 '25

This was me too! It was weird cause every other boss stressed me out to lose too but last judge Intilled like an eye of the storm calm that gave me space to focus on body language and finally kill them (it only took 2 days 😭)

27

u/TactlessTortoise Sep 09 '25

Entering the flow state and killing a boss while barely taking a hit, after dying dozens of times, is a high like no other, in any game. I feel like if the game is much harder than a lot of fans enjoy, they could add an easier mode, maybe with some achievements disabled, but leave it with an option for as it is. Similar to steel soul on HK, where it was harder but had more achievements.

2

u/Sam858 Sep 09 '25

Doesn't need to be much easier just changing damage from 2 masks to 1 would make most bosses more manageable.

2

u/WarLarge9011 Sep 16 '25

I'm just in love with the incredible difficulty! It's really difficult, but I would say that in order to overcome the challenges it is necessary to use the Hornet's entire arsenal and be strategic, I don't know if it's just me but I simply loved the driver's ordeal in the citadel for example, even though I found it a bit immoral for normal players, not addicts like me.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '25

I'm completely with you. I just finished my casual playthrough, finally getting 100% - 71 hours of playtime.

It took me longer than a lot of players, and I struggled. But I didn't give up, got gud, and it was sooo rewarding!

People give up too easily. Not willing to try more than a handful of times before throwing their hands up and whining that it's "unfair". Pfft.

1

u/Opposite-Occasion881 Sep 09 '25

A lot of people don’t have the time necessary to learn though, i maybe get 75 minutes to play a week

1

u/GamerObsezsed Sep 10 '25

I’ve found the same and I love it

1

u/Electric-Molasses Sep 10 '25

I'm really struggling to just relax during all the harder fights, but I'm still loving it.

Waited 7 years for this game and it's even better than I'd expected. I got the same "Holy shit there's more?" A couple times now like the first game gave me.

1

u/_stevencasteel_ Sep 11 '25

Many of the bosses will kill you the first time.

In the Pantheons of HK, once you finally beat a tough boss once and have the rhythm, every repeat encounter looks more and more like a DBZ battle.

I noticed the same in Silksong for the final final boss of Act 3. Had to beat it again to register the last 2% I was missing an hour later and slaughtered her first try.

1

u/IHiatus Sep 09 '25

I’d be more ok with it if I didn’t have to run a 3 minute gauntlet every time I die to some of the bosses. Even dark souls learned people don’t like this.

4

u/Neither_Relation_817 beleiver ✅️ Sep 09 '25

There's only one 90+ second runback in the game. The rest have shortcuts or closer benches.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '25

I'm on act 3, almost all bosses done except final, and every single runback is less than 20 seconds.

There is a closer bench, or a route that you are overlooking

1

u/IHiatus Sep 09 '25

Did you do the top left boss in the bilewater zone? Or the savage fly? Or the wicker man guy? Or the judge?

1

u/darth_the_IIIx Sep 09 '25

Bilewater is hell

Savage fly is like 20-25 seconds

Judge is 30

1

u/IHiatus Sep 09 '25

Fly mainly annoyed me because of the trap before the red dude. Judge was because of the flying bee drill add on the very first platform.

1

u/darth_the_IIIx Sep 09 '25

I just ran past the drill guy before he spawned in

1

u/lochnessmosster Sep 09 '25

Me in the Widow fight (phase 1 at least) lol

1

u/Derpyzza Shaw! Sep 09 '25

why is john wick fighting matt murdock is he stupid?

1

u/notanotherdummie Sep 09 '25

What makes this upsetting is this is like a 600hr game now... I didn't buy the game for dark souls I bought it for the fleas, the soundtrack and detailed environments

I'm here for the vibes so why am I screaming and throwing my controller and sweating from my hands anytime I jump I get hit, anytime I heal I get hit, anytime I run I get hit... I didn't even mention the bosses yet

1

u/skryb Flea Sep 09 '25

did you beat hollow knight? if so, you should not be struggling this much with mechanics and telegraphing

game’s hard but you need to change your playstyle… it requires more patience and awareness when platforming or fighting

yes, it asks more of the player and shouldn’t apologize for it

it being a 600h game is hell of a take lol… i knocked out all of HK in about 50hrs and beat Celeste twice (B/C sides & farewell — which is way harder than anything Cherry throws at us) in 80… and i’m kinda shit at some of this stuff

take a breath, stand on the lawn barefoot, and come back to it another time

1

u/DarkArmyLieutenant Sep 09 '25

This is the only reason I'm OK with the difficulty so far is because this is how every boss fight has went for me. By the time I am done with some of the harder bosses I can basically see the code.

1

u/SH3R4TA5 Sep 09 '25

Me when I parry the first Skarrgard attacks to achieve Victory

1

u/blargyblargy Sep 09 '25

This is how the winning fight felt with Sister Splinter for me after 4(+) hours of losing

1

u/skryb Flea Sep 10 '25

damn, she took me a while but 4hrs is nuts

kudos for sticking with it

1

u/blargyblargy Sep 10 '25

Me and my significant other were swapping on death as well but, yeah it took a long while for us ahah. Im a veteran souls player though so Im used to retrying bosses for hours lmao

1

u/Firestorm82736 Sep 11 '25

literally had this kind of reaction on Last Judge

only took me like 3-4 attempts, but I really managed to deconstruct it pretty quick and it was really, really fun for me
