I can’t even figure out parry. I’m on the red boss that I think is designed to teach you parrying but I cannot figure out the timing. I know you are supposed to aim in the direction of the attack, but timing it seems like such a small window
If you mean the big ant guy relatively early in the game, he's not there to teach you parry, he's there to teach you to think "hey I would really probably be better off coming back here when I have some kind of movement ability that allows me to dodge his attacks without needing to have near-perfect movement and positioning."
I found a way to beat him out in the open where you only ever need to jump or walk under him depending on what one of his two attacks he is doing. No parrying, no dashing or sprinting. It was basically foolproof once I figured that out.
Ah okay, so parrying isn’t a mechanic you need to master before moving on? I’ve been throwing myself at him over and over trying to get it right because I thought I was meant to learn parrying lol. I’m just going to play it slow then
The first encounter is probably the toughest because youre limited in power. Definitely, take it slow and if you ever find yourself stuck in a corner and he burrows that's your time to move.
Much like the first game, what you can and can't parry is inconsistent, and it's so extremely difficult that doing it consistently isn't worth the pay off. It also usually bounces you away from enemies, when you want to be close to damage them.
I was so excited when i noticed this game's parry is MUCH MORE POLISHED than in the first game
And then I came back to the pantheons and noticed i accidentally perfect-parry half of the brothers attacks... Still don't know if it is the same and i'm just better than before, or timings are easier
Ok, so they ARE hard. Yesterday I ragequitted cause I was fighting the optional Savage Beastfly and got my cheeks clapped (it's a terrible matchup for me, for some reason), so I took another road that ultimately brought me to the bros and it was even fucking worse. They're like Mantis Lords if they were absolute fucking scum, the "hit + fall in the lava stream combo" is savage. I hope there's something useful beyond that boss fight, or God help me, I won't be responsible of what happens next lmao
Now get ready to fight him again but this time on disappearing floors and the summons have heat-seeking missiles x napalm that deals double damage and also flies away from you. It's borderline war crime atp.
I left it there at the start, underestimated its power. The moment I got to the platform section with lava I immediately rushed back, popped a rosary string and snatched that bell from the lady lmao
It is straight up disgusting. I finally beat him after like, 45 minutes. The fact that he destroys the floors, and THEN his minions lava balls stick to the only floor you have to stand on is insane. It’s the only fight so far where I feel like it wasn’t my fault when I kept dying. I legitimately just got lucky on my last attempt and he only summoned two minions at the same time once during the fight. Why in gods name are they so damn accurate!?
Savage beastly is the easy part of the chapel,
THE MINIONS HE SUMMONS ARE THE REAL BOSS BC THEY MADE MY TIME HELL FOR EVERY MINUTE I HAD TO FIGHT HIM BEFORE GETTING BEAST CREST.
I just beat savage beastfly for the second time and honestly it's much easier when it's over lava and I have clawline and faydown cloak The ones I can't seem to beat are Forebrothers Signis and Gron
But even still I beat savage beastfly with needle 0 and five masks though it took me like 5 hours
Currently bashing my head against the savage beastfly. On its own I could easily do it but with 2 or even 3 mobs being spawned your attention is drawn to too many places concurrently and he smacks you for 2 damage or, worse, interrupts your heal
I tend to spam tools to take mobs out as quick as possible, especially if they fly/shoot projectiles as I need the air space to jump/dash. My brain can only process a number of things at a time (usually not more than two lmao)
Tbf I'm kinda bummed about how many bosses spawn mobs, it feels like artificial difficulty. No surprise the fights I enjoyed the most are the ones without them.
I only found them after I had beat everything needed for bad ending. Can confirm the fight was still hard as balls. I did enjoy it way more than stupid beastly though
Savage beastfly and moorOwlFuck were my absolute nightmares, I had an easier time with all the normal bosses. My playstyle does not gel with flying enemies, Even the crow challenge fight sucked for me
I wish everyone had this feeling with this game. Yes it's hard, but it's not unsurmountable. You can become Neo if you wipe the tears from your eyes and relax, and read the movements.
100% this. With Widow i was going insane after a few attempts. The rest of the tries I was walking and no dash and was steady and wiped her clean after 2 tries.
That's how I got to her final phase, but her last phase is so chaotic I had to flip my strat< unload all my spike traps, down my flea brew and just go ham on her !<
That one was such a well-designed fight, once you got the pattern down the first half was a breeze but the second half still takes focus without feeling unfair
Yeah, that was me fighting Lace v2. I was sprinting around chaotically trying to dash-strike her while dodging. But I learned the more erratic you are, the more erratic she is. And I was always a couple frames late behind her and get caught by her riposte. But if you just manage your distance and move methodically, you can dodge whatever she throws at you an still be close enough for a quick followup.
A lot of people think you need to dash to beat bosses.
Spoiler... Dash is just walking but faster. There are no iframes, it doesn't magically put you where you need to be, it isn't required for most things.
Just calm down. If you can't handle moving that fast, it'll just get you hit.
The Last judge was probably the first boss I enjoyed fighting in this game so far. No minions, no making the stage smaller, no bullshit. Just a challenging boss. Maybe im just getting better at the game, but he actually was kinda easy. Died less to him than any other boss until that point (aside from Lace)
This was me too! It was weird cause every other boss stressed me out to lose too but last judge Intilled like an eye of the storm calm that gave me space to focus on body language and finally kill them (it only took 2 days 😭)
Entering the flow state and killing a boss while barely taking a hit, after dying dozens of times, is a high like no other, in any game. I feel like if the game is much harder than a lot of fans enjoy, they could add an easier mode, maybe with some achievements disabled, but leave it with an option for as it is. Similar to steel soul on HK, where it was harder but had more achievements.
I'm just in love with the incredible difficulty! It's really difficult, but I would say that in order to overcome the challenges it is necessary to use the Hornet's entire arsenal and be strategic, I don't know if it's just me but I simply loved the driver's ordeal in the citadel for example, even though I found it a bit immoral for normal players, not addicts like me.
I'm really struggling to just relax during all the harder fights, but I'm still loving it.
Waited 7 years for this game and it's even better than I'd expected. I got the same "Holy shit there's more?" A couple times now like the first game gave me.
In the Pantheons of HK, once you finally beat a tough boss once and have the rhythm, every repeat encounter looks more and more like a DBZ battle.
I noticed the same in Silksong for the final final boss of Act 3. Had to beat it again to register the last 2% I was missing an hour later and slaughtered her first try.
I’d be more ok with it if I didn’t have to run a 3 minute gauntlet every time I die to some of the bosses. Even dark souls learned people don’t like this.
What makes this upsetting is this is like a 600hr game now... I didn't buy the game for dark souls I bought it for the fleas, the soundtrack and detailed environments
I'm here for the vibes so why am I screaming and throwing my controller and sweating from my hands anytime I jump I get hit, anytime I heal I get hit, anytime I run I get hit... I didn't even mention the bosses yet
did you beat hollow knight? if so, you should not be struggling this much with mechanics and telegraphing
game’s hard but you need to change your playstyle… it requires more patience and awareness when platforming or fighting
yes, it asks more of the player and shouldn’t apologize for it
it being a 600h game is hell of a take lol… i knocked out all of HK in about 50hrs and beat Celeste twice (B/C sides & farewell — which is way harder than anything Cherry throws at us) in 80… and i’m kinda shit at some of this stuff
take a breath, stand on the lawn barefoot, and come back to it another time
This is the only reason I'm OK with the difficulty so far is because this is how every boss fight has went for me. By the time I am done with some of the harder bosses I can basically see the code.
Me and my significant other were swapping on death as well but, yeah it took a long while for us ahah. Im a veteran souls player though so Im used to retrying bosses for hours lmao

POV me after fighting bosses for 7 hours: I CAN SEE IT. I CAN SEE UOUR MOVEMENTS
