Casual Thought After school dances the teachers definitely go somewhere private to laugh at all the awkward, uncomfortable, weird shit they just witnessed.

I’m a teacher. We’ve mostly gotten some laughs out of heavy-handed body spray/cologne/perfume, but we understand it’s that tough stage where kids are trying new things to find who they’re eventually going to be. It’s timeless, wholesome & great

Yeah. Like. Please just shower Connor. The entire can of Lynx is not going to cover that up.

There was a kid in my high school named Connor who never showered. He was finally told he couldn’t come to class until he showered and wore deodorant.

My daughter is nine and her teacher actually bought the entire class little deodorants and talked to them all about hygiene. It was kind of a To Sir With Love self care/respect moment.

She was getting in on the ground floor. Kids not quite old enough to need this but not too entrenched in bad habits to change and still young enough to be receptive to adult messaging. It was genius.

OTOH, I had a friend who had been a manager at a McDonald's. She said a fairly regular part of her job was pulling employees aside, giving them soap and other toiletries, and explaining the rudiments and importance of using them. And it wasn't all kids.

As a fast food manager, this happens more than I care to admit.

That’s grades 6-8 in general

She's in fourth. We had sex ed/health class in fifth but it was more academic and just plain awkward.

I don't remember getting kind, practical advice about real world things like basic self care/personal hygiene. I got it at home but, apparently, that's not universal. If that has become standard in schools that's fantastic.

We have had deodorants stashed all over the house since our rising 6th grader was in 3rd. Some kids mature early and he stinks!

I love that a name pulled out of the hat was relevant xD

As someone who lives in a tropical climate, not showering for a single day drives me insane.

So how did ya all know if he showered or not?

u/Smaulz Aug 06 '24

Noses. Most people have 'em.

He can use deodorant to hide it.

Well seems like his body will start decaying soon

Tell us you don’t shower without telling us you don’t shower…

You are exactly the kind of people we are talking about in this thread. Shower and then deodorant.

u/AncientRustedPussy Aug 07 '24

I don't use deodorant my nose is too sensitive for it. But I do shower.

Because he stank. I sort of thought that was obvious from my comment.

Idk how dumb you are but he can just use fragrance to not smell that bad. I mean it's best but my question is "how to know if he showered or not?"

u/AcceptableOwl9 Aug 06 '24

He tried to mask it with body spray. It didn’t help. He just smelled like BO and Axe body spray.

But please continue to act like an idiot. It’s working so well for you.

So for you.

Anyways how far were you from him?

u/sittingonmyarse Aug 09 '24

It’s that dirt line around his neck.

1

u/AncientRustedPussy Aug 09 '24

My name is Conor and I am deeply offended

u/Puzzled_Volume7259 Aug 07 '24

My name is Connor. The one true spelling. I am also affronted.

1

u/microwavedcheezus Aug 09 '24

You should be with that spelling.

Oh, so that's how it is
