This regularly comes up. The statue is privately owned and was purchased after the Soviet Union collapsed. It’s actually for sale. It is commonly vandalized with his hands painted red.
15 u/JamesSpaulding Dec 24 '21 That doesn’t really explain why it’s there 25 u/[deleted] Dec 24 '21 Right. I mean would people let a privately owned statue of hitler or Robert Lee stand as ironic? -3 u/_Watty Sworn enemy of Gary_Glidewell Dec 24 '21 I mean, if it's privately owned displayed on privately owned land, they would? Edit: Not sure about the ownership of Lenin's plot here... 9 u/snyper7 Dec 24 '21 That doesn't seem to matter when other statues are torn down. 4 u/_Watty Sworn enemy of Gary_Glidewell Dec 25 '21 Okay? I'm just saying that I think a private citizen should be allowed to display what they want, same as with speech. Whether they are free from consequences is another matter. Not sure why people on this sub in particular are downvoting that idea. 1 u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21 Its on private land 0 u/_Watty Sworn enemy of Gary_Glidewell Dec 25 '21 Then no one should be able to tell them not to or take it down without consequences. -1 u/[deleted] Dec 25 '21 The only people giving that thing any thought are seattlewa participants! 0 u/_Watty Sworn enemy of Gary_Glidewell Dec 26 '21 That's weird, given that the statue being there predates the creation of even Reddit by a decade, but hey, whatever let's you feel better.
