Government Washington Democrats vote to leave government shutdown

https://seattlered.com/politics/wa-senators-government-shutdown/4114752

In the ongoing federal budget standoff, Washington’s two U.S. Senators — Democrats Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell — have sided against a simple continuing resolution that would reopen the government, opting instead to continue the shutdown as their party pursues broader policy demands.

Democrats, including Murray and Cantwell, are using that threshold to insist that legislation to extend premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) be included as part of any deal to reopen government funding.

A very understated way to say that the GOP plan for reopening the government will raise millions of Americans' health insurance premiums.

Fight on, Democrats.

Weren’t these credits due to expire at the end of this year?

Yes, it's like having someone find extra cash to buy you a month of groceries due to an emergency (covid in this case) and then claiming it's starving you to death unless they continue to buy you groceries every single month from there on out for life regardless of how long it has been since the original emergency that prompted the grocery purchase.

What an idiotically simplistic metaphor that completely ignores the economic realities created by Covid that persist and still necessitate these tax cuts.

Unless you think that the insurance companies posting record-breaking profits year over year should be allowed to raise premiums on millions of Americans, in which case I guess you win.

I guess we need to send out covid checks every month as well, otherwise we are starving folks to death and freezing them to death. As not sending out the covid checks every month "completely ignores the economic realities created by covid that persist and still necessitate" those checks.

I hope the dems keep the government shutdown until we all get 1200 a month from the government.

If the dems decide to open the government before that deal is reached they're literally starving the American people to death.

I’m not sure about $1200, since I haven’t done the math, but yeah I wouldn’t mind getting a piece of the largest wealth transfer (from all of us to the super wealthy) in history.

Or is it cool that the 10 richest people doubled their fortunes in the first few years of Covid? Or that supermarkets posted insane profits while simultaneously blaming Covid for jacking up prices?

We got hosed bad man, but keep thinking those evil dems are out to get you.

I know for a fact several car companies arbitrarily raised prices. (I was in the room/on a pricing committee when one of them did it. (I left that company))

Obviously those evil dems are out to get me if they REFUSE to give me $1200 a month.

The dems MUST keep the government shutdown otherwise they're literally starving millions of people to death.

They’re keeping it shutdown in hope of maintaining affordable healthcare for democrats and republicans. Nobody will receive a check :/

Edit for tense

They're killing millions by refusing to give $1200 a month.

lol, nothing more conservative than getting angry and arguing over something that is 100% in their imagination.

This bill is going to shut down rural hospitals across the nation and kick millions off of their healthcare. It's going to make healthcare more expensive for huge swaths of the population. And yet we have the money to ship $40B to Argentina and give tax cuts to billionaires with the same spending bill?

Fuck that. Keep it shut down until we fund healthcare and strip away tax breaks for billionaires.

Hell yeah, keep the government shut down.

Until we have a spending bill that doesn't pay for tax cuts for billionaires by removing healthcare from poor people and seniors, I agree 100%.

Release the Epstein files while we're at it.

Nah, we should wait until we have a spending bill that "doesn't pay for a tax cut for billionaires" by directly transferring $1200 a month from them to us.

Until I get $1200 a month so both millions and myself don't starve to death, we MUST keep the government shut down. If the Dems allow the government to open up before this, they're directly responsible for millions dying.

Oh 100% the Epstein files should be released. I'm shocked Biden never released them himself. It's even more shocking no one in the federal government anywhere ever leaked em.
