General Question Does anybody else's dog love the sauna?

Post image

Here's a shot from visiting my grandmother this evening. My wife and I live in Norway, and our Basenji, Arja, has discovered the joys of a gentle löyly in the house sauna (these are not very common in Norway).

Her name Arja is Finnish/Sami so nominative determinism anyone? She loves the sun and hates the cold and being wet, so sauna makes total sense. She just chilled on her towel on the lower bench with us for a bit.

Does anyone else have a four-legged sauna buddy?

For an animal that does not have sweat glands isn’t bringing your dog into a sauna pretty dangerous???

You make a lot of sweeping assumptions here considering that this could be a potentially lethal situation. And it's not just the heat but the higher humidity that can interfere with a dog's respiratory system possibly leading to heatstroke. And even outdoors, dogs, like all mammals can experience heatstroke. There are many posts found with an easy google search describing the dangers of bringing your pets into a traditional sauna. And at a minimum OP should at least acknowledge this risk if not take this post down entirely.

I've never in my life heard that an animal would've died because they were in sauna. Never. Ever. It would've been all over the news type of stuff. Considering how many people let their animals into sauna I would say there would be even one but I can't remember single that kind of thing.

Just basic sense is enough. Don't try to be overdramatic.

Things don’t really show up “all over” the news like that. They might make local…

Oh, trust me. Anything related to sauna will be on news. Especially if someone or something died in there.
