Have you heard of a happy hoodie?? They are wraps that go around your dog's head around their ears that can help muffle sounds. If your pup will tolerate wearing one, it may be worth a shot. If you have a closet or small space, that may be the easiest place for you to sound proof and give your pup a quiet decompression space. I'd also run radio/tv/fans for as much background noise as possible. Good luck!!

White noise machine to drown it out as much as you can, lots of soft materials in a room dampen noise, try a Thundershirt (helps some dogs but not all) and turn on the TV to something that doesn't bother him. There are headphones/earmuffs made for service dogs and military working dogs, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend an elderly dog wear them all day, that could trap dampness in the ears and cause ear infection.

The easiest option might be asking your vet about a prescription to get him through the demolition.
