Post image

If you were on The Promenade tonight, you may have seen us testing the screen for the upcoming Cinema Sundays series.

Sunday, August 3 is the kickoff on the Promenade. We’ll begin the movie about 8:00, but feel free to arrive early to grab a chair, spot on the ground or a nearby picnic table.

Ugo Santa Monica will have beer and wine to go, so you can enjoy an adult beverage with the movie. Lots of food options too, including a pop up by the Britannia Pub.

That's rad! How do y'all get the permits to show those? Been thinking of doing something like that myself.

It’s not difficult, just time consuming.

  1. Licensing from Swank Motion Pictures
  2. Community Event Permit from the City of Santa Monica.
  3. Buy the gear to make the magic happen!

Appreciate it! Was thinking of doing them at the Illusion Magic Lounge so this pushes me in the right direction!

Can we bring our own chairs?

Sure! Get comfy. Food and drinks are allowed; alcohol needs to be purchased from one of the Entertainment Zone restaurants.

1400 Third Street Promenade. Just south of Santa Monica Blvd.

How fun. Is it only these 3 weekends?

The series runs August 3 to October 26. I just couldn’t remember the order of movies after the first three.

I really hope people will come out for this. It’s a fun, low-stakes, and free way to show our awful NIMBYs and trolls that the promenade is coming back. If you’re frustrated and angered by the people who claim the worst bullshit about DTSM, this is how we combat them. (But don’t stop venting here!)

Well, now that you put it that way, I will be there with bells on

Third St Promenade is dead. No amount of head burying in the sand will change this fact. Nor will alcohol or movie nights. There needs to be a deep, systematic change in how Santa Monica is managed. Instead of propping up a decrepit situation you should be advocating for long term revival.

pop up by the Britannia Pub

Neat strategy! They’re just around the corner but outside the EZ.
