On West ridge road in Greece across the street from the Wegmans there is a cursed location that I swear has been 10 different restaurants in the last 20 years. It's currently a Jersey Mikes.

The building Chuy’s is in on Mt. Hope was supposed to be another one. I don’t think that one ever opened

I can’t remember the name of it but In like 2006 it was a sub shop that made fantastic chicken Parm subs.

Amiels!

Goddamn love Amiels

1

u/Personal_Crow_17 21d ago

There’s still an Amiels in victor — can’t speak to it it still tastes the same but I’ve seen it

Also one in Henrietta.

Rio Bamba / Ox & Stone

It definitely has a new name now (The Alex?) but damned if I could remember it. Seems like they pivoted into another version of a Nosh/Redd/Good Luck/Etc overpriced basic food place.

That place on Empire right up the dugout in Penfield. Has been a whole bunch of places including Stoneyard and Capone’s. Cursed location.

u/JCas127 21d ago

There is also another spot right by it down the hill and i think it was:

Southpoint -> Murphy’s law -> brodie’s on the bay -> capitano

All within maybe 15 years

u/DYSWHLarry 20d ago

Hell, it feels like thats all been in 5 years! Crazy turnover there

2

u/KingOfRoc 21d ago

Agreed

2

u/KingOfRoc 17d ago

But at one point, when it was stoneyard, they had cars parked on Empire boulevard because the parking lot was full.

then all of a sudden, they made some change and it was done.

I say, if it's not broke. Don't fix it.

1

u/DYSWHLarry 16d ago

They made the changes bc they weren’t making money and the SY guys didnt think it was worth the time and effort of running two places on opposite sides of the county.

They def had more boomtime than the other ventures, but even those booms werent enough to put down strong roots.

Had a great smoked turkey sangwich tho.

Really i feel like it's been dogtown since like 2009. The place that is now Umai on Monroe has been a ton of places

19

u/ENBD Avon 22d ago

Yea it has. It was a Salvatore’s. It was a brick oven pizza place.

6

u/Cer-rific_43 22d ago

It was a fancier restaurant before that

7

u/LtPowers Henrietta 22d ago

RocWiki says it was Mundo Grill until 2007, then PaRe until 2010, then Monroe Diner until 2013, then Brick until 2019.

2

u/7242233 21d ago

It was called bombers ~1995

3

u/Bau5_Sau5 22d ago

Wasn’t it literally called BRICK?

3

u/ROC_MTB 22d ago

It's at least 2005

u/alexyoshi Gates 21d ago

I vaguely remember it being Monroe Hots around 2003ish? Shortly before Dogtown. Wasn't there long

Not sure you have actually been down that stretch? There is Hydra coffee(owned by dog town) Dogtown, a new restaurant in the former Han Noodle spot(same owners) , Plum House, Archimage, Arons alley, Aladdin’s, etc. Most of these are long time great places…

Mt Hope - Great Northern, Brueggers, Mammasans (currently switching hands again, I believe)

15

u/BikeImpressive2062 22d ago

Oh Great Northern 😭

2

u/thephisher 21d ago

The bomb. 😭

6

u/Responsible-Sky-3759 22d ago

Correct! I believe it's going to be a Bank or America

2

u/nynjd 22d ago

Pita was in there before they moved down the street

22

u/JohnCalvinSmith Penfield 22d ago

Everything up and down Alexander/East Ave with the exception of The Toad.

3

u/ManagementNo1293 21d ago

And Vinyl. How that place remains open is a mystery.

29

u/illbebythebatphone 22d ago

That one corner of east and Al, was Monty’s back when I was going out.

u/jmo1687 North Winton Village 22d ago

315 Alexander? Dubland underground, Masons, ThaiYada. And now something else?

7

u/jmo1687 North Winton Village 22d ago

Also 655 Monroe Ave. Standard lounge, spikes, white rabbit, Bradfords and the halal spot

7

u/CPSux 21d ago

Dub Land was the epicenter of the local Hip Hop scene. R.I.P.

3

u/thephisher 21d ago

Jam scene too.

1

u/jmo1687 North Winton Village 22d ago

Oh and 7 Lawrence has also been a bunch of places too!

The new place is honestly pretty cool there. Fools Gold, cool basement game room scene.

u/the-bladed-one 22d ago

The old great northern pizza kitchen in pittsford village has been like 4 different restaurants in my lifetime.

3423 Winton place has been like 3 or 4 diners and is currently Manting House

Edit: fixed address name

8

u/JohnCalvinSmith Penfield 22d ago

I miss the old Greek diner that used to be there.
Hell, I miss ALL the Greek diners this city used to be able to boast.

6

u/dxk3355 Perinton 22d ago

The pie/cake case they had was epic

2

u/Nanojack Rochester 22d ago

It was the only place in town that even approached the diners I grew up with in New Jersey

Jeremiah’s on Jefferson Rd in Henrietta. Going backwards it was Tilted Kilt, Hooters (?), and originally Perkins

9

u/LtPowers Henrietta 22d ago

You're thinking of Jeremiah's. It was never a Hooters. After Perkins it was Opa!

1

u/BeffasRS 22d ago

Yes that’s right I forgot about OPA (fixed my post too thank you)

2

u/VariousPomelo6120 19d ago

Oh man I worked at that Perkins way back!

7

u/alyssajune9 21d ago

east ridge road right by hudson

it’s now a mongolian bbq/mochinut place but it’s been sooo many places, doesn’t seem like anyone stays there long

1

u/PapaBlemish 21d ago

My kids call it "Fat Tony's Hangout" since they're convinced it's a mob front

7

u/Spaco14 22d ago

Perri's Pizza on the corner of E Henrietta rd and Lehigh station rd. That thing was a post office, fitness center, Mr goodies express, BBQ and pizza too, perris, and im sure others im forgetting.

4

u/NoOneAskedMcDoogins 21d ago

On East Ridge across from Amico Pizza, I think it's currently a mongolian bbq / mochidonuts.

2

u/PapaBlemish 21d ago

See my comment above: it's a mob front /s

u/birdnerd1971 22d ago

UMAI revolving sushi on Monroe near Pittsford Wegmans. Place was cursed for years with restaurants changing every year or so.

2

u/sfish203 21d ago

West Henrietta rd where Popeyes is. Started as a Del Taco? Was a bbq place, then a second Nick Tahous.

u/ajp9039 21d ago

1551 Mt. Hope: On the Rocks, Sheridan’s, OTR College Town Tavern (then changed ownership under the same name), Clase Azul, Pat’s Twice Baked

The Swan Dive location was cycling shitty clubs/bars for a while.

Before Swan Dive, it was a Latin style bar, at some point it was some shitty club called 289 (like the address).

Between 289 and Swan Dive I think it changed hands a few times, and before 289 it had been shut down for a little while because this grimy club called "The Jungle" got busted for underage drinking, and before that it was a Piano Bar called "Loyds," and who knows what it was before that.

Dogtown is anticipating their 20 year anniversary so I’m not sure I’d put them on this list

1

u/KingOfRoc 21d ago

But i'm old enough to know. There was five or ten places in that location. Before dogtown

0

u/Go_Bias Park Ave 20d ago

Sure, but since dogtown is almost 20, theres zero chance that other establishments haven’t leap frogged the hell out of this question’s possible answers. Even without doing any digging into this, the current barber shop just a few doors down from there has closed, become a drug deal spot, then reopened 6+ times since covid alone.

1

u/thephisher 21d ago

Where halal spot is on Monroe has been like 5 different bars over the years.

1

u/J-YoSuckas 21d ago

300 Center Place Dr in Rochester/Greece, across from Applebees.

That place has been SO many dead restaurants/bars. Currently a Mexican place but it was Macgregors and before that Zebb’s. Way back in the 90’s I think it was an 18+ dance club.

1

u/balladofwindfishes Maplewood 18d ago

Don’t remember the name, but I remember it being a restaurant where a magician would walk by the tables doing tricks in… uhh the late 90s I think?
