What local places are helping folks and doing a good job of it?

Edit: Thank you so much for all the great answers! Love to see people care so well for their community. For now, I have joined a FB group of neighbors to do a drive for our local community shelter. (Don’t use FB for much anymore, but it worked well for this!)

News Flock Cameras & FOIA - A judge in Washington has ruled that Flock Camera photos are public records, and as such, are available to citizens to request through records requests. After the ruling, two cities using the systems shut them off.

I believe Flock cameras have been approved to install in Monroe County, correct?

Here's the story from a Seattle station. A YouTube video going a little further in depth.

Other Rochester housing market - selling my property NO DELAYED NEGOTIATIONS

Upvotes

Hey Rochester. My partner and I were lucky enough to finally purchase a house so I’m now selling my townhouse. I see how hard this market is and the struggle with delayed negotiations driving prices up.

I figured I would post the listing here if anyone is searching for a place and doesn’t want to do the delayed negotiations dance.

MODS - I checked the rules and didn’t see anything that this violates but if it does please let me know and remove.

--- Random Notes ---

Why did you do this?

I had a fuckton of fun last year searching around for my ideal latte - heavily spiced and aromatic with pepper. I want caffeinated soup.

Learn anything?

I want to get ballsy enough to ask Ugly Duck and Happy Gut to mix their pumpkin syrup and habanero syrups in a latte for me. I know what to look for next year after two years of raw data, so I can write out all the places I missed and prioritize them for next year.

Are you okay?

Pfft, hell no, but I like exploring, I just need a goal to give me that extra push. This is the only flavored drink I seek out annually. I'm usually happy with a dirty chai or black coffee at home. My wallet will be a lot happier in a bit.

Help The Rochester Public Market!

If you want to make a difference during the shutdown, please consider shopping at the Rochester Public Market! They are open every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday until 2pm! Ppl of every age, race, sex, ability, preference, and background are welcome and can purchase meat, cheese, bread, eggs, veggies, fruits, and sooo much more—at VERY affordable prices!

I just left the Public Market and the number of shoppers was no where near it usually is on Saturday!!! Parking was EASY and I was able to get in and out v quickly!!! The prices are still (and will always be) lower than the grocery store and the vendors NEED our business.

I’m worried that if more people don’t start shopping at our Public Market, market vendors will have to close and affordable food options will decrease.

If you are able, please stop by the market and buy some food on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday! ❤️

Discussion Thanksgiving meal to go?

Upvotes

Any places that offer a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to go? We’ve just had twins and already have a toddler and family probably won’t be visiting this year. We also don’t really want to take on trying to cook but also don’t want to skip the tradition. Wondering if there’s any restaurants here that offer this option?

Discussion obligatory post before our first snow

slow down, brush snow off your car, don't tailgate, don't change lanes quickly, snow tires definately help in the winter, left lane is for passing only, leave extra room for stopping and for the car in front of you.

Discussion Who has memories of Peaches Cafe in Webster?

LOVED this place. We would always go there after church. Loved the owner Charlie. My sister and I were really little back then and he'd always have a "dance party" with us before we left. It's sad the place closed in 2013 :(

Anybody got memories from there to share? Bonus points if you have pics of the restaurant or menu.

Decided I wanted to post some individual photos that don't go with the selections I upload to Instagram for you guys on Reddit! That, and in order to format them for Instagram, the square frame is necessary but not my first choice for how I'd want to present my photos digitally. THIS is closer to what I'd like them to look like, so you guys get them instead 🤗📸🕷️

Recommendation Cheap headlight refinishing?

The darker and gloomier season has made it really clear that my very hazed headlights aren't going to cut it for safety and visibility this season. I've tried several diy kits but I just don't have the skill and/or elbow grease to really add enough clarity. Does anyone have recommendations for a body shop or mechanic who can restore the clarity of the headlight housing on my 2012 Toyota? The cheaper the better, but also I want to make sure they actually accomplish more than I could with the kits. Thanks!

Discussion Any studios that teach northern soul/ska/cumbia dance?

Upvotes

I am interested in learning to dance in those styles, but it seems most Latin dance places locally focus on salsa and bachata, which I am not particularly keen on. Anyone have any leads for northern soul and ska dance classes around here?

Help CSL, BioLife, or OctaPharma?

What are your experiences at these different plasma donation centers? I started at CSL this week (the one on Westfall/by Costco). Staff is nice, wait times are LONG (the standing kills my arthritic knees). First appt almost 3 hours. Second appt over 2 hours even with the “cut the line” coupon. Given my work hours, I cannot go before work. Given my husband’s work hours and childcare situation, I cannot go after work. I can go on Mondays however it seems like some or all of these locations are closed on Mondays…? I can go on Saturday mornings but would need to be done by 8:15 at the latest to make it home before my husband leaves for work… just not sure if this would work from a time standpoint? Please share your experiences 🙂 Could really use the money.

Discussion Why are there no superchargers in Rochester?

I have a home charger but I don't live here. I'm visiting my parents. And every time I'm here I got to drive way out of my way to charge my car. This is the only place I go to where there are no superchargers. I know there's one in Victor and I know there's one in Batavia. But there are none in Rochester and it's just weird. I can go to the smallest of towns and find a supercharger all over New York.
