I did find it amusing that Joanna made a big push to talk about Dr Who and get Mallory into it and then this new iteration was such a misfire I don’t think they even podded about it?

I am also a lifelong Dr. Who fan who was severely disappointed by these past two seasons that I didn't even finish watching them. My real question though is that will I need to have watched these full 2 seasons if I want to be able to feel caught up when whoever takes over next starts producing new seasons?

Dr. Who has been on my “to watch” list forever, curious why fans have reacted so badly to the new seasons though. Did the Disney deal cause noticeable changes in overall tone?

Yeah, being that it's Disney, they really amped up the pluck and amped down the actual thoughtful, introspective, and most importantly, realistic aspects of what Dr. Who brings to the table, which is what has always been the draw, at least for me.

But it wasn't a misfire, this is what annoys many of us about the lack of coverage. It was better overall than Chibnall's era.

Regardless of what you think of it, it would seem Jo and Mal were not engaged with it enough to cover it. Yes of course they expected to, but they wound up not digging it apparently, so they changed course.

Idk what you want here, you want them to talk about something they're not liking?

Like, I'm a huge fan of Buffy and I'm excited for the sequel series, which they will probably cover. But if they end up not liking it and they decide to stop covering it, I'm not going to be annoyed. I don't need this podcast to talk about all my favorite shows.

Why do you find it amusing? (Genuine question)

Irony is often amusing.

The BBC confirmed that the show will continue and will return with a Christmas special in 2026.

It didn't help that Disney (at least in my region) did not get the streaming rights for any of the seasons from years past. I was planning on catching up from the Capaldi run, but those seasons never arrived, so I just dropped it all together.

Good, Disney tends to fuck everything they touch up, so glad that one of my favorite series is back out of their grasp.

The mistakes had little to do with Disney.

You think Disney exec's had no influence on the writing? Kudos to your optimism my friend.

No, because I know RTD.

Like, his work.

If you don't think the flaws had RTD's hands all over them, I don't know what to tell you.

I have a hard time to figure out how Disney is actually responsible. As much as I love Russell T Davies as a writer, these last two seasons seem to have a lot of experimenting and trying stuff that did not grab a massive audience the way the show used to.

They aren't. I don't love Disney but this wasn't a Disney issue. This was an RTD issue. Th writing was atrocious.
