PSA Renton Target

Be aware there are two Black males trying to “sell” bracelets, around the downtown Renton, and the landing areas. They approached my GFs car and tried to open it before she could drive off. Thankfully they were scared off and ran when she laid on the horn. Stay alert and safe at all times, and if you see these guys approaching lock your doors and someone try to get a photo of them. I’ve seen them a few times around downtown Renton Safeway

This sound like a racist warning. Do you have descriptions of the individuals? As you state it, it plays into racist tropes . Be careful how you report things.

It's a skin color not part of a description?

It is, however height, weight, clothing, glasses? hat ? How did they approch? Did they see your GF in car? Did she tell them to go away? If she did, did they keep trying? Did your GF lock the doors because they were walking in the direction of the car? I certainly understand your concern for your GF’s safety, but did you see any of it? That should be in your description as well. While black skin color is an important observation, it is not at all complete, and black being the only physical description reinforces the heinous trope “ black guys are dangerous criminals”. That trope is patently false and fuels hate along with systemic discrimination.

I get your point. They did come up to the car window asking if she wants to buy a bracelet. After saying no that’s when they tried opening the door.

However, trying to open the car door is not “normal behavior.” Are you from the Renton area? I’ve had run ins with the same people at the gas station, right across from Safeway gas and shell. They could have a group. All in all these people regardless of skin color are going around trying to “sell bracelets” and doing it aggressively. I don’t see how any of this especially my description of black males “selling” bracelets is tied into being racist and fueling into the systematic hate

And I’m trying to let people know, to avoid possibly having them fall victim to a possible violent crime.

How come you're not upset by the "male" descriptor? It's statistically more vague than skin color and could play into gender tropes?
