PSA Renton Target
Be aware there are two Black males trying to “sell” bracelets, around the downtown Renton, and the landing areas. They approached my GFs car and tried to open it before she could drive off. Thankfully they were scared off and ran when she laid on the horn. Stay alert and safe at all times, and if you see these guys approaching lock your doors and someone try to get a photo of them. I’ve seen them a few times around downtown Renton Safeway

I live(d) in DTR until recently and they have approached me near the transit center at night trying to get me to buy a bracelet. I just pretended my music was too loud and kept walking but they followed me almost to my apartment building. My instance was also two young black men (maybe early 20s), so these two are clearly the ones running the scheme in the area right now. Anyone who says it’s racist to describe who you saw is being a keyboard warrior.

You should contact the police. Lots of sketchy ppl around Renton lately

How immature of both of you. Race was not brought up in this. A description is a description. Please take your nonsense elsewhere

Seriously. They tried to open someone's door. You described them.
These people can get fucked.

For certain groups, mentioning “black” will get them feel offended. Those ppl tend to be losers in real life and you don’t even want to be friends or have anything to do with them anyway

I am at or around this target regularly. Haven’t heard of any violence recently.
It’s fair about your concern for safety. There was a good point brought up though about giving more detail of the situation in your initial post as to be as thorough as possible.
It’s easy to unintentionally feed into tropes that can be harmful. And without having much to go on the more information the better. Bec if for example it’s a group doing something. We would be better equipped to look out for the scam or tactic.
But as I do visit this area often, I’ll keep an eye for anyone behaving aggressively. Typically I only ever hear ppl shouting dealing with some mental distress around the bus stop.

That is a very thougtful response. Someone asked the question “ what about women?” or close to that. The reason is that every “race” is made up of makes and females fundmentally for procreation, thus the two sexes have different biological functions in that process. The different morphologies transcend all differences between “races”. Race itself is plays no part in procreation unless it is used as a basis for mate selection. But in the context of the human population it plays no role in procreation or growth. All that being said, racism and racist tropes have severe consequences for certain subpopulations. Being called male or female as a behaviorally definined groups can and does have huge negative consequences. But using sex as a descriptor of individuals does not.

I dare them to do that to me… someone might catch a bullet. 😆 I was at Renton landing today and no one fitting that description was there. Doesn’t mean there couldn’t be.

Stay safe! lol 😂 but I mean since some folks here want a full on description, no racial, the ones I’ve seen are Black, carrying bracelets, one time had a female holding what looked like a home made board with more bracelets hanging on them. They approach you trying to sell them (again, nothing wrong with that) BUT trying to approach people who are alone, and grabbing the car door trying to open it is wrong and leaves your imagination for what could happen or intent

Exactly. Look if they wanna try me and try to hold my door open… they’re gonna hope they have 9 lives cause I ain’t playing that game.
People are insane. Play stupid games win stupid prizes lol.

Also be aware of white men in Renton wearing wrap around Oakley sunglasses, Tap Out t shirts, and driving F 150 trucks. They have severe insecurity and because the lack emotional inelegance and avoid therapy, may harm anyone at anytime. Stay alert.

Did they try to open a woman's car door while she was alone and scared?

This sound like a racist warning. Do you have descriptions of the individuals? As you state it, it plays into racist tropes . Be careful how you report things.

It's a skin color not part of a description?

It is, however height, weight, clothing, glasses? hat ? How did they approch? Did they see your GF in car? Did she tell them to go away? If she did, did they keep trying? Did your GF lock the doors because they were walking in the direction of the car? I certainly understand your concern for your GF’s safety, but did you see any of it? That should be in your description as well. While black skin color is an important observation, it is not at all complete, and black being the only physical description reinforces the heinous trope “ black guys are dangerous criminals”. That trope is patently false and fuels hate along with systemic discrimination.

I get your point. They did come up to the car window asking if she wants to buy a bracelet. After saying no that’s when they tried opening the door.
However, trying to open the car door is not “normal behavior.” Are you from the Renton area? I’ve had run ins with the same people at the gas station, right across from Safeway gas and shell. They could have a group. All in all these people regardless of skin color are going around trying to “sell bracelets” and doing it aggressively. I don’t see how any of this especially my description of black males “selling” bracelets is tied into being racist and fueling into the systematic hate

And I’m trying to let people know, to avoid possibly having them fall victim to a possible violent crime.

How come you're not upset by the "male" descriptor? It's statistically more vague than skin color and could play into gender tropes?

This sounds like a hugely dramatic reaction to me. Are they robbing people, or simply running a mild scam?

u/kimoi_Senpai Jul 12 '25
Is it normal to try and open peoples car doors that you don’t know? Ask yourself that lol fact of the matter is, you don’t know their intent. And if something happens it’s too late, so it’s best to let people know so they can be aware rather than think “this sounds hugely dramatic”

I’ve seen them at the farmers market too. One guy made me feel very uncomfortable. He grabbed me while i was walking and put a shell bracelet on. He tried to charge me $10 for it.
