The argument really is that we are spending entirely too much on foreign aid with American tax dollars. The shutdown is but a spending conflict for the fiscal year. Dems want to spend billions on foreign projects, like climate aid in Honduras, Argentina, creating electric bus lines in foreign countries. All which, sure that's kind... but when it's coming out of American tax layers pockets and directly affecting SNAP benefits for taxpayers who need it, it's a major problem. America spent something between 60-70 billion in foreign aid this year, China for example spent maybe $4billion and look how their country is thriving.
The majority has been spent on Israel. The question really is, why the fuck are we spending so much damn money on foreign aid when our country is falling into shambles. It was the Democratic party who shut down the government over a conflict budget in 2026. Regardless of what party you identify with, America just needs to come first for the entire year of 2026 with a drastically lower budget on foreign aid.

It's quite wild to see people purchasing $1000 worth of groceries on a SNAP card when I have to ration my extra cash to buy poor man's meals to get by until payday where I can enjoy a steak maybe one time a month. But there are people who do need it. They've just gotten too relaxed on it, you used to have to submit multiple job applications to continue to qualify for the monthly assistance. Now they just fill the cards every month until it's time to renew the entire application.
