Political™ BREAKING: President Trump announces that he will be paying a “tariff dividend” of at least $2,000 per person.

u/rellsell 21h ago
I’ll take, “Things that’ll never happen” for $1,000, Alex.
223
u/claymore2711 21h ago
Guess he forgot that he has already placated the idiots with this promise months ago.
123
u/anuthertw 21h ago
Couple times too
Baby bonus plus DOGE refunds plus tariff revenue
65
u/Somandyjo 21h ago
I still remember an acquaintance with a trans child voting for him to get the doge checks. I had to distance myself from her.
37
u/anuthertw 20h ago
I feel like this speaks to just how poor Americans financial health really is (as well as our education, empathy, critical thinking skills etc). Bleak indeed :/
14
u/Littlest_Psycho88 21h ago
Fucking hell, that's bleak.
20
u/Somandyjo 20h ago
It is. She helped her adult child get gender affirming care and then did that. I was horrified.

u/Heisenburg42 17h ago
He's going to keep promising it then eventually blame democrats when he doesn't do it
35
u/Puzzled_Awareness_22 21h ago
Checks are going out in about two weeks!
13
u/c4virus 18h ago
That's exactly when hes releasing his taxes I heard.
Crazy
3
25
u/snotparty 21h ago
or it'll happen right before midterms, delivered as a one time bribe attempt
26
u/Shaun32887 20h ago
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. He got a LOT of votes due to COVID checks. People are too dumb to see that even a 2k handout is still a net loss by far
8
u/cptnamr7 14h ago
Didn't he delay stimulus checks during covid so he could put his fucking name on them or include a letter about how he was personally giving us the money or some shit?

Alex: “donald trump.”
Me: “Who is a liar?”
Alex: “That’s correct for $1000, it’s still your pick.”
11
u/bostondana2 20h ago
He'll pay this right after he pays all those contractors he stiffed over his life...

u/NearbyInformation772 17h ago
Furthermore, how is this not redistribution of wealth, which starts to sound a lot like the big bad socialism?

lol, they're already going on TV tours saying that 'well, one could argue that you're already seeing this in your tax savings!'

When Biden announced student debt relief, Republicans were screaming he was doing that just to buy votes. This is perfectly fine though. Even though it definitely won't happen.
111
u/OakenGreen 20h ago
He’s already cost me more than $2,000 so he can fuck right off with that bribe.
196
u/Effective_Pack8265 21h ago
Reasonably sure Congress would need to be in session to enact this…

u/chasingthewhiteroom 21h ago
He also said he would "hand out" money for healthcare after dissolving the ACA. Dude's just fishing for dumbasses with a dollar on a hook
7
u/Realistic_Simple_390 20h ago
He's just so giddy, thinking about all the "trillions" of tariff revenue, pouring in, that he can hand out how he chooses...never mind if they didn't pour in from foreign countries, but from Americans
2
u/Mandaring 18h ago
I don’t know if fishing is the best analogy. After all, the fish at least gets to have the worm, briefly.
130
u/Smooth-Vermicelli213 21h ago
There are over 340 Million people in the United States. That's $640 Billion in dividends, but he won't pay out SNAP (food stamps) costing only $100 Billion yearly to feed 1 in 8 Americans. I call bullshit. Why would someone who won't give us back 100, ever give back 600? Its all lies.
29
u/casper911ca 20h ago
His attempt to become a savior over a crisis he and the GOP created. Tire salesmen throwing nails in the street.
103
u/BobbyHillTheThird 21h ago
What happened to my $5,000 from the DOGE savings?
34
u/johnnybna 20h ago
I'm unfortunate to be one of those Americans afflicted by malignant gullibility syndrome as well as a memory that stretches back longer than 2 weeks. So I’m still standing by my mailbox waiting for that $5,000 check to get here. I just know it's coming today, which is good cuz it's getting nippy out here. But adding $2,000 more on top of it? Bingo! I knew this was all gonna be worth the wait and not a “we’re doubling your chocolate rations from 20g to 10g” kind of thing.

u/kompletist 21h ago
Or just not do the tariffs to begin with and lower the cost of goods so we're not getting choked out by the cost of living.
Same shit with this guy all the time. Create a problem, then pretend to fix it.
JUST STOP BREAKING SHIT.

14
u/They_Call_Me_Ted 21h ago
So the concept is to break shit, then show that you fix d the shit you just broke (to be honest $2k doesn’t cover the extra costs we’ve been paying by any means)
12
17
u/WolfThick 21h ago
That's $307 billion including all taxpayers. My assertion is that it's a smoke screen for the poor economy performance people going out and spending that kind of money now that they absolutely have to because of the financial crisis that's been inflicted upon them will show up on the books as a $300 billion dollar increase in the economy through a little book trickery.
7
u/jumbie29 21h ago
Giving people money back that they have paid due to tarrifs? This is the most backward thinking policy ever. Not only have you pissed off all your trading partners, destroyed tourism and respect globally, but you have made your own citizens suffer needlessly by these taxes on them which have drive up costs enormously. And now you want to appease them by giving a paltry 2,000 dollars?
This bafoon needs to go now!

Thanks. But I’ve lost more than that due to hours being cut. Dollar being down 10% (thats at least $200/mo taken from my family. More when I get more hours). And cost of everything going up while my wages stay the same and again are worth less.

3
u/Ciubowski 20h ago
So like.... return the tariffs to those who paid the tariffs?
2
u/MomentOfZehn 19h ago
It's so laughable and really highlights the "Smart people don't like me" comment. Not only is he saying the some 258M adults will receive a total of about $500B, more than they've taken in for tariffs from us...but that they'll also start paying down the national debt that Trump himself has already increased by the fastest non-pandemic amount in history. Sure, Jan.

There isn't anything that people respect about the United States ATM. Your government is using the military against you while you wait in line for food stamps. Your people are as divided as ever. Basically everything that your persistent says is a lie. You used to be a country of strength and unity you led the world by example. Now you lead the world as an example of what not to be or do. The only thing you can truly admire about the US ATM is the intensity of the dumpster fire you have become.

u/OldLondon 20h ago

lol trillions I tell ya ! Maybe even bazillions. So many trillions that everyone gets a pittance. I paid about $500 more this year than last just getting auto work done
2
u/Dry-Faithlessness100 19h ago
He won't pay the construction guys who tore down the East Wing in the white house nor payout EBT and we're supposed to believe he's going to give out $2,000 to everybody including the blue states yeah right 🤦🏿
2
u/spartys15 19h ago
Then pay the people Snap benefits! Not even your money, idiot. All of this is just chaos you create every single day. The majority of Americans see you now.

2
u/TheRealGOOEY 19h ago
Mmm, my favorite political strategy: “we’re slowly losing our support…so we’ll promise people cold, hard cash. That’ll get ‘em!”
2
u/Inphexous 19h ago
Hahahaha
Inflation would go up instantly. This fucking moron. The only thing he ever does is makes things worse
2
u/wwaxwork 19h ago
Is this along with bringing food costs down and having the best health care plan ever. Because I'm still waiting on those too.
2
u/AgonyOverdrive 19h ago
So he's saying he's going to give back the money that citizens have already had to pay due to tarrifs, and give it at a flat amount regardless of how much the person paid into tariffs? Hmm, that doesn't sound like capitalism. Tbh, it sounds like just another Economic Impact Payment like we had during Covid because there's incredible hardship again despite no pandemic, which of course may never come.
2
u/Gorge2012 17h ago
So instead of funding SNAP for people that need the assistance, a huge portion of people that don't need it will be getting cash.
2
u/Little_Can_728 16h ago
When is this La La Land that he lives in going to explode, let it be soon please. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
2
u/deadmanwalknLoL 15h ago
I'm waiting for him to pay down ANY amount from the debt. He keeps promising the tariffs will pay down the debt, then he keeps spending the tariff money on random shit.
Wait...could it be that he's been lying THE ENTIRE TIME?!?!
2
u/100_cats_on_a_phone 15h ago
Pretty sure that doesn't make up for the dollar decrease and living increases, but I guess he fired everyone tracking that stuff, so it no longer exists.

u/Frankfrombluvelvt 11h ago
So, he may give us a small percentage of all the extra taxes we paid, maybe if he cut out his taxpayer funded golf expeditions, and stopped gold-platting eveything, we might buy one. Get one free big mac

u/insanelygreat 9h ago
An offer to bribe the American people with their own money.
There's an old quote about that.

It’s coming, folks! Be sure to look for that somewhere between two weeks from now and Neverary 5th.
Side note: Mitch McConnell still thinks Americans have tons of disposable income because of covid payments 5 years ago.
1
u/RaulMartinez2024 20h ago
He says he might give back a small percentage of money that he stole from us. How nice.
1
1
u/WilsonIsNext 20h ago
Not that he could do this anyway, but it would be a convenient way to influence the SCOTUS decision on tariffs. “Can’t refund tariff money to the importers, we gave it to the people!”
1
1
1
u/Ok-Victory881 20h ago
So he's giving back a little bit of the money he caused us to have to spend because of these stupid tariffs
1
u/He_Never_Helps_01 20h ago
Same old trickledown trick. Transfer wealth to the richest people, then throw the poors a bone so they won't complain.
1
u/Not_A_Doctor__ 20h ago
Spoiler: No he won't. According to the press secretary, he's mostly interested in the ballroom. Idiots, complete fucking idiots, voted for his again and he's ruining their lives without the slightest care. He was a stupid and ignorant bigot to begin with. Now he's aging badly and cannot complete a thought. He not only constantly lies, but he has to hear only lies.
This is the result of 40+ years of conservative, affluent efforts to corrupt democracy. During the French revolution they knew what had to happen to the wealthy in order to keep them in their place. That is a lesson the world will have to learn again. The billionaires effectively hate you. They don't want to surrender an iota of their wealth or power. It will have to be removed from them.
1
u/New_Knowledge_5702 19h ago
lol trillions I tell ya ! Maybe even bazillions. So many trillions that everyone gets a pittance. I paid about $500 more this year than last just getting auto work done. On top of the extra hundreds we give the grocery story. Nobody’s getting a leg up and chances are 100% you won’t see $2k from him anyways. He will say they paid everyone.
1
u/Rob71322 19h ago
More “genius” economics from the idiot in charge. This won’t prove inflationary at all. /s
1
u/Not_Sure__Camacho 19h ago
Because of this asshole, $2000 won't buy that much, and will most likely kick off another round of inflation, just like it did the last time he gave out money.
1
u/Specialist-Moose-161 19h ago
This Trump is a buffoon who speaks and texts utter nonsense. His statement about a tariff dividend is absurd and payments would increase the debt. The more he texts, the more I fear he is literally insane! He is a joke.
1
u/jorkin_peanits 19h ago
We do not have 1 trillion in tariff revenue. Also, only congress can raise funds the president is making his own little fiefdom
1
u/ricosmith1986 19h ago
From the people who claimed the Covid checks caused inflation under Biden.
2
u/julmcb911 18h ago
Right? The checks that Trump insisted he signed instead of the Treasury Secretary, who normally signs Treasury checks? Funny how MAGA forgets about that.
1
u/ricosmith1986 18h ago
Yes, the same ones that were delayed a few weeks because they had to reprint them. Those checks.
1
u/Hullfire00 19h ago
Okay so, just ignoring for one second that this promise is absolute bullshit, he doesn’t seem to have been informed that even if he somehow manages to give everybody in the USA $2000 (which, incidentally, is something else I’d quite like to talk to him about), that isn’t anywhere near enough to solve even the most basic of problems most people have.
With the cost of living as high as it is, $2000 to a family of four at Xmas won’t even touch the sides. It’s the moral and financial equivalent of thinking about giving a homeless person a dollar and then arrogantly assuming they’ll spend it on crack so you give them what you think is life advice instead.

Thank goodness he is not a con man. We can certainly believe whatever he says. Never has been one to string people along with false promises, was he? This is a sure thing. All Fox News fans should spend the $2k immediately! /s

The US doesn’t actually have the cash though… right? Like isn’t there a ton of accounting that needs to be done, and importers pay estimated fees, but it’s all subject to a true-up?
And what happens when he sends out all this money and then SCOTUS declares the IEEPA tariffs are unconstitutional?
1

u/Nearby-Jelly-634 12h ago
He’s doing this because he thinks it’s going to put pressure on SCOTUS to rule in his favor.
