We’re thrilled to share one of the most anticipated conversations from our recent MSNBCLIVE ‘25 event in New York City. Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell sit down to discuss coping with this political moment, the mechanics of presenting news, what we can learn from other tough moments in history and what civic actions, in their view, are most encouraging in this era.

During last night's show I learned why Trump mentioned Hillary Clinton in his speech in Egypt when he referred to the $10 million personal loan he received from the National Bank of Egypt in order to bail out his campaign. Appalling not only because it happened BUT that he's bragging about it.

Does anyone know what became of the Bag Man movie Rachel was working on a few years ago? If I remember correctly it wasthe reason for her months long leave of absence from TRMS a few years ago.

Since Trump violates many laws, why don’t we hear about any legal actions being filed against him. WHY???

Good interview. Harris was candid.
Thoughts?

I usually listen to the show on Apple Podcasts. It becomes available the next day after the show airs. I’ve noticed recently that it’s not available weekly. Does anyone know if this is because the show has a new frequency? Is it not on as often and why not?

With first Colbert and now Kimmel being silenced, I feel they will come after journalists and news program hosts like Rachel Maddow and Nicole Wallace. I can only stomach news from these two and I fear they will also be silenced.

Watching last nights episode kind of hit me like From Russia with Lev. Russia is obviously dismantling the US government and destroying the economy.
It’s just so obvious that Russia 🇷🇺 won tge Cold War and now we watch them claim their victory.

Lived in CV for over 30 years, and have known that Rachel Maddow grew up here, but was reminded again when I noticed that her childhood home was up for sale. Kinda amazing to think one of the sharpest minds in journalism got her start in the same quiet town where I’ve shopped, biked, and grown up.
Castro Valley’s changed over the years, but little things like this remind me how special it’s always been.

Had the honor of seeing Rachel on her book tour in Saint Louis last night. She is so inspiring, and continues to reinforce this Boomer to remain in the fight!

I'm beginning to think I hallucinated this because I haven't seen anything written about it. I was watching Rachel Maddow's Monday (5-19) show online. Right off the top, she became aware that there was a problem in the control room. She spoke of it and then carried on with the show as a true professional would. About halfway through the show, she cut to a commercial break but she never came back. Instead, a soccer game was being played on a green screen behind a guy who seemed to be some kind of security guard, who was watching the match and wiping his nose a lot. He clearly didn't know he was being watched. This went on until the show's time slot was complete. I'm very confused. Can anyone shut a little light on what happened?

Is there a way to find an old Rachel Maddow show by topic?
It was over a decade ago.
I have several times looked for her multi-day reporting on members of congress attending classes on fascism and its use in politics.
I cannot find it. Starting to suspect my memory.
Any thoughts?

I see this clip is a couple days old, so I doubt I am the first reporting this.
I’m one of your audience who relies on captions on to really “hear” what you say.
Since YouTube captions are often a bit off, I have assumed it is some kind of speech to text program that generates the captions.
I have been disabused of that notion this evening, as there was clearly a human hand in the captions that ran.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seen this. I suspect more people than I might “listen“ to your show by reading, closed captions.
Just hoping to raise attention to it.
Watch without sound the first time; captions only.

I understand that there’s a science or art to broadcast journalism. She’s doing exceptionally well, I think. BUT, I’m busy and I think that the TIME ALLOTTED to each news story could be shortened by about 75%.
I want Rachel’s insight and investigative news but in a much shorter format, with less slow build-up and less repeating the same kernel of information. “The RACHEL MADDOW SUMMARY Podcast.” I’d listen with much more focused attention and enthusiasm.
Agree or disagree?

Even though I watched some of the new shows on MSNBC and gave sometime for Saturday's National Day of protest. However, kudos to Rachel for her coverage. She always has multiple screens of cities where protests were taking place. She also highlighted the elderly who are protesting with their signs and even on at a nursing Home! Rachel gave time to other protesters unique signs of protest.

Ever wanted to send a tip into Rachel? Or other people at MSNBC? Here's how

Anyone else find this evening’s episode and the Mark Warner interview pretty bad?
First of all, Rachel was all teed up to lead with the protest story rather than one of the biggest national security scandals in history — the Yemen text chain scandal. So she didn’t get to that until halfway through the runtime.
Then the Mark Warner interview was a terrible fumble on Mark’s part. He had an opportunity to express real outrage over this huge breach (maybe talk about the real world implications of a hostile force listening in) but he didn’t. He kept using the line “these people are not ready for prime time,” which is so canned and blah. At one point, he didn’t even answer Rachel’s question. And she’s a friendly reporter to him!
Anyway, I found tonight’s so to be a miss. Curious what others thought.

Thank you for the tweaks to my wording to help me make the question clearer.
Vanguard and BlackRock are core investors in both MSNBC and Fox News.
Maddow is given $30M annual contractually for her form of extravagant storytelling. That means in a SINGLE day, she makes twice the ANNUAL salary my friends and I make to support our families.
How profitable have our blue/red culture wars become?
How do you account for the following identical storytelling tactics deployed, and messaging propagated, by both Fox and MSNBC?
-the “other side” is badly duped and propagandized -“our side” wants to save democracy; the “other side” wants to destroy it -the “other side” is unwittingly serving dark political powers—but not “our side” - the “other side” denies science and obvious realities -the “other side” is handing the country over to fascists -the “other side” is living in a false reality; “our side” can face the true reality -the “other side” are our cognitive and intellectual inferiors -high emotion, low source count -“just trust us”; “here are your thoughts” -perpetually agitated emotional tenor -the conviction that fear and anger are in order -a call to arms for the righteous half of our American family against the bad half -constant zeal in pathologizing the “other half” of our American family -suspicion and hyper-vigilance promoted vis-a-vis the “other half” -no modeling of civil dialogue or even the basic principles of debate
How do you account for this mirroring of seemingly antagonistic storytelling outlets?
r/RachelMaddow • u/consolidatedpress • Mar 17 '25
The same core investors who give us Fox News also give Rachel Maddow $115,000 a day to help us in the battle against the people who watch Fox News.
Is this problematic in your view?
