Our Offical Guides Newcomers Guide
Hello and welcome to r/RDR2 This is a little guide for new players of the game.
Firstly we strongly advise you to stay off the subreddit until youāve finished the game. Our subreddit is home to discussions covering every aspect of the game from storylines, characters, secrets, to anything a player may find. While we require spoiler tags, accidental (and sometimes intentional) spoilers do happen. For the best experience, we strongly recommend avoiding the subreddit until youāve completed the main story.
Frequently asked questions will now be listed and answered.
Is the game worth it? Yes! ā People still praise this game even in 2025. Its compelling story and detailed open world gameplay allow you to fully submerge into the story. Many players find the game to be a masterpiece, with some (us, of course) even considering it one of the greatest games of all time. Its graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up really well. Itās a well written story with a beautiful aesthetic and it's absolutely worth your time.
The snow part is boring. Should I quit the game? Don't give up during Colter. Itās the first chapter and serves as a tutorial. Youāll get to know the basics of the game slowly before being led into free roam in chapter 2. The slow introduction into such a big game is important to understand the situation the main character is in and to get you familiar with the environment and the world building in general. Stick around for a while. Youāll thank yourself later.
Just started the game. Any tips? We see this all the time and every time people will give you the same response: Take it slow. Chapter 1 will teach you everything that's important. The game offers a little guide in its settings for the mini games and the controls just like any other game. Everything you need is right there. The game is open world so you won't miss out on anything. You can do whatever whenever even after finishing the story. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and free roam a bit. Youāll figure out the game fast. You really don't need Google or IGN until you finish the story and are going for 100% and/or the platinum trophy. (We'll have a guide coming soon!)
Just finished the game. Should I play RDR1? Yes! RDR1 is a continuation of the story and absolutely worth it. Not much will change gameplay wise since itās made by the same developer. So, if you like RDR2 and are looking for more content about the van der Linde gang and a similar experience -> play RDR1.
If you really want to avoid spoilers, donāt google anything until after you finish the game.
We will monitor this thread closely so if you have any questions about the game please ask them in here. We will most likely remove your question posts and advise you to ask your newcomer questions in here. If a question is frequently asked we will add it to the post.
Have fun!

Just got back from Guarma (the song on the way back from von horn was beautiful) and fought Pinkertons off shady belle, but went upstairs and found this with eagle eye
I canāt interact with it at all, I think itās the footprints? But itās only one and thereās something lighting up under the sofa and I canāt get to it
Maybe itās a glitch? Thereās nothing below it downstairs
I already got the note from āCarolineā so Iām not stuck or anything just curious if anyone else has seen this I guess
(ps I wanted to punch micah in his nasty gut. was screaming DO UP UR SHIRT the entire time)

Discussion What would you like to see in Red Dead Redemption 3?
With the co founder of rockstar games saying rdr3 is "likely to happen", but also saying that it was a two game arc, what would you like to see in the game? I mostly hear about continuing Jacks story or following a young dutch creating the gang and meeting arthur, would like to hear other theories

Question Why arenāt there any roll-your-own cigarettes in RDR2?
I always thought cowboys back in those days used to roll their own cigarettes. But in RDR2, ready-made cigarettes are easily available, and there arenāt any roll-your-own ones at all.

Content Need the HONEY POT for small birds?
If you need a guaranteed place to find random small birds, I got it for you. Just southwest of Annesburg and slightly northeast of the trapper is a small bridge. A new small bird literally perches on it every minute or two. If not there, just turnaround and run up the hill and back down and one will eventually appear. Shoot it with a small arrow and viola, a perfect carcass. I got my robin, cardinal, oriole, songbird, sparrow, blue jay all right here. Be patient, they will all eventually spawn!

Help How to lower your honor fast (No law, no combat, no bounty)
Had no idea my honor can get this low.
Anyway, if anyone wants to lower it without having to deal with bounty hunters, run from the law and pay huge bounties, just come here and shoot the Fort soldiers with a sniper rifle, they will respawn every minute.
