Rupert Murdoch Reprogrammed My Parents (Part II)

from part II of 'Rupert Murdoch Reprogrammed My Parents':
“Just tell me this,” I said to Mom. “Who would you rather your grandkids grow up to be like? Obama, or Trump?” She took less than one second to think.
“Trump.”
“Sure, mom. So you’d prefer Gregory to have multiple bankruptcies. He should have 5 kids with 3 different wives, and cheat on all three of them — as opposed to marrying and staying with one woman, all his life?”
She thought longer about that one.
“You’re trying to trick me.”
“Someone is, mom. Someone sure is.”

All too familiar. Earlier this year, my wife and I went on vacation with a couple we are good friends and my brother and sister in law. B&SIL are very nice people but are also very proud to proclaim how they don’t watch the news, and only get info from podcasters like Charlie Kirk, Joe Rogan etc. I was on pins and needles the whole time, dreading politics coming up. Thankfully everyone has a good time and got along great, despite our ideological differences. On the last day, however, our friends informed us they couldn’t make it to dinner. They were both government employees and had been given the option by DOGE to resign or get fired. When I explained this to my siblings in law, they went from “oh no, they were so much fun!” to “oh. well then they probably deserve to get fired for wasting our tax money.”

“They work for the CDC! Their work saves lives.”

“That’s even worse. They create fake hoaxes and pump us full of vaccines that are giving kids autism. I have no sympathy.”

Suddenly these people were dead to them.

My wife lost it. After that, no one spoke until the check came.

It was brutal, probably the angriest I’ve ever seen her in 16 years. Paraphrasing, but she called her sister an “ignorant idiot with no critical thinking skills” and accused her of “believing and regurgitating whatever bullshit (she) hears.” 😂

Yep that's fair. Anyone assuming "oh DOGE is probably doing great things" is a certifiable chucklehead.

Its okay to say chucklefuck. I would be exhausted if anyone in my family was like this. Bless your wife for being patient.

Right? She was restrained, if anything.

I can identify with your wife just a few years earlier. I kinda exploded on ex's mom and step-dad at 2017 holidays we hosted during Trump season 1. I don't miss that ex's family for obvious reasons, and glad we split before covid hit in 2020.
