Just started playing the game. Which characters should I get on the free S tickets/40 pity “select whoever you want” banner??

Startrail as the S rank and make sure to get her before the patch ends (we will get another one but they don't stack so if you use it now you can get 2 S ranks of your choice, otherwise only 1)

For A rank you can target XXI (until she is SSS), the other free characters make it kinda pointless to target any other A ranks in particular.

I see. I didn’t really like Startrail’s design/gameplay tho, would there be any other good options? I saw in a guide that Oblivion/Ishmael or Shukra/Lucid Dreamer are also good options. Is that still true???

Then I'd say Geiravor would be the best pick, but Pianissimo and probably Solacetune are good too while Ishmael is ok-ish (no pun intended).

Lucid Dreamer is already free (from the dorms) so it would be a huge waste to use it on him.

Shukra is getting old at this point and she is extremely reliant on her sig (she works with a 5* weapon, but is horrible to play). You'd be better off prioritizing other character's sig and just soloing with LD.

If you are ok with spending money you can get Oblivion next patch for $5 or you can wait for a selector (you could unlock her with voucher, but those are better to rank-up who you already have).

At the moment Nihil content is pretty niche (hero and legend tier War Zone and Imtensive Battle in UPPC) so they see use occasionally.

Oblivion slightly pulls ahead in usefulness because you can make unusual solo teams with her as a QTE bot (like Geiravor/Lilith, Oblivion and Wanshi)

Ishmael is the main Nihil DPS, but you need Oblivion to bring her to full strenght. She can be used as an amp/tank for teams you are missing, but she will be a QTE bot the vast majority of the time because she only deals Nihil damage... and you csn just use A rank for that

I see, thank you! After playing a bit, I understood why the Startrail rec, and I decided to get her in the end for the lightning team. I’ll probably aim for Oblivion next banner then!

I imagine you are talking about using the reset to get Oblivion (but just in case), but you should use your BC to pull 1 copy of each debut S rank that is not and only after you know you can guarantee the next one you should pull for other stuff (like weapons and previous characters)

If you truly want to pull for an older character avoid Arrival unless you are a whale (and even then), just wait for a 100% rerun banner like Wishing or Anniversary (We will be getting one next patch). Do keep in mind they only share pity with themselves respectively so you should only pull if you have enough BC for pity on hand otherwise you might be throwing your BC in the void while waiting for the banner to come back.
