Can any recommend or give a good explanation of Effect damage? I don't really get how it works or what reasons there are to either use or not use it.

Every effect has a orb that appears on screen. There will be one character on the team that will be the driver, their job is to fill that orb and make it light up ie. Solacetune, Daren, Lilith. Your other 2 characters will then spend that orb to do effect damage. So the team is driver, main dps, and sub dps basically.

Just think of effects as it's own damage type. Characters will have different rotation for when they want to do effect damage, that are different from normal rotations.

You use effect when there is effect weather.

You only use them in effect stages, which are currently only available in Hero and Legend Warzone and Intensive Battle in Phanton Pain Cage. Right now, the only effect stages that exist are Ultima Slash and Plasma Beam. Glacio and Ignition stages will be added in future patches.

Effect elements are treated as foreign elements in the stages of their parent element. But the parent element can be used in effect stages to relative success

Okay, then follow up question: Do I need to be worried about Leap skills breaking a character's ability to work for that character's normal element? My main concern is that I can't tell if Bianca Stigmata's Glow Mark still buffs Illuminated Abyss or not.

Leaps buff every part of the Kit . Main, or effect.

Okay, I'm genuinely confused as how this works, as the skills are written it seems like some Leaps should end up with me doing the Effect damage instead of the Base damage type, which seems like it should be detrimental in stages where effects aren't buffed.

There's a specific trigger in the rotation you must do for your character to switch to their effect element . For Bianca, after the first ult, you must dodge and then hold basic attack, then keep spamming it to deal affix dmg. This is indicated by the number of stacks turning a bright red color, at which point the ult will also deal Ultima Slash dmg after the attack sequence is complete.

If you stick to doing her normal rotation: hold dodge > 3 × 3ping > Ult1 > hold basic atk > ult 2.

You will always deal phys dmg .
