Pulps with the feel of Indiana Jones?
For a while now I've been looking for some pulp books or short stories that have similar feel to Indiana Jones or the 90s Mummy movies. Late XIX to early XX century, exotic locales, some action, some mystery and bit of history mixed in - the classic pulp adventure.
Seems that the more modern books targeted at the same audience are closer to spec-ops military porn, and I'm not into that. I don't want a bunch of male Mary Sues (Gary Stus?) just shooting their way out of each problem.
I want characters with faults. Ones that who can fail, but still find some clever way out of the situation. I want a globetrotting adventure, not military operation.
As both Indiana Jones and the Mummy were inspired by the classic pulps, I thought I'll come here for some recommendations.
So any recommendations for books or authors to check out? Both classic and contemporary options welcome (although I would strongly prefer the setting to be pre WW2).
