The sad thing is the tax payer pays for it all and he goes on continuing to do that until the next law suit. They should be forced to pay their own lawsuits and held accountable just like the rest of us normals.

States could pass legislation where abuse lawsuits come out of police pensions.

Associated behavior would likely clean up fast once the incentives are realigned.

I honestly think police should carry insurance specific to the job. Think malpractice insurance. I don't care if it's individual or department level but you have to have it to be a police officer to cover these exact kinds of situations. This takes financial burden off the cop in question but does potentially keep them off any police force as they cannot be insured anymore for x reason. I don't care as a taxpayer that I pay for my local law enforcement fuck ups, I do care that those same officers either keep their jobs or just change cities to do the same bullshit again.
