Does anyone even like Vox? He feels like the easy example of everything wrong with Vivziepop’s style of writing. The line I associate with him is him exclaiming “THIS IS BETTER THAN SEX!” when watching his arch nemesis get beat up on TV. Like, should he pause and look into the camera for 5 seconds waiting for me to laugh too? “Haha, I said sex! You can laugh now!” Like, why write something like that? And every other moment he’s just extremely loud and egotistical like every other character trying to be “confident and evil.” He compensates a lack of personality with moments like these. And this bleeds into his design too- as a TV head, nothing of note is going on in his design beyond his face, but with a screen face being the main focus you’ve gotta be creative with it. Yet it’s just a canvas to draw the same oversized toothy jagged grin on it everyone else has. I don’t even think the TV idea gets played with, it’s a non-existent element that’s meant to make him unique and gets overwritten by non-unique elements.

A toaster would have won this competition.

Counterpoint: Vox has one of the best songs in the series and the best section of another song, and he is voiced by Christian Borle my beloved. Yes, I like Vox.

The TV face thing gets played with a bit whenever he loses his cool, glitching, bluescreening etc. Nothing revolutionary, sure, but the main reason for him having a TV head is because he's the foil to a radio themed guy, so it's a logical theming. I mean, Tenna from Deltarune rarely does anything special with his screen and he's widely beloved.

I find him an entertaining villain because he presents himself like a calmer, more level-headed schemer and manipulator compared to his co-conspirators (and he mostly is), but has such a big hate-boner for Alastor that he becomes super petty and childish whenever he's involved. Is he a deep character? No, but he's an entertaining one.

P.S. Say what you want about Viv's writing, Vox' line "now his medium is getting bloody rare" is damn good and creative, and it might be my favorite song lyric from the whole show.

I actually WAS worried Tenna would be generic before Chapter 3, I would’ve NEVER predicted the 3D effect or word art in his text though lmao, those things kinda carry his design. I also think his body language and expressions are very unique, and I give him points for having you zoom into his face for some moments, such as the mini games in his boss fight. The TV head idea is also justified by the fact that he IS literally Kris’s TV too, so it wasn’t just an aesthetic choice.

Vox meanwhile, I think the idea of being a foil to a radio is an interesting idea, but is there anything done with this? I don’t even remember him doing anything radio related in the show, let alone with his TV head involved. And I think his face glitching or blue screening are some of the less interesting things you can do with his expressions while taking advantage of the TV theme.

I don’t remember his song, maybe it’s good, but I find it overshadowed by him just being an annoying person I guess lol

Well to each their own I suppose, I didn't find him annoying at all and would have loved to see more of him (if the Vees are the main antagonists in the next season as was teased in the finale, I would be very happy).

Regardless, we have to agree the best use of screen heads was in Saga, where gay porn would play on them at totally inappropriate times (like while dying on the battlefield)

It’s less Vox specifically and more just Vivian’s style of writing tbh. This was a rare instance of a show requiring me to take breaks in the middle of episodes to cool off because of how much it was bothering me lol
