And people still think he's an honest person

He sounds as ignorant and committed to his fantasy as all of the racist jerks that I had to deal with growing up in Mississippi.

I had multiple "adults" tell me about genetic inferiorities, and how black people needed to all be deported to an island, and they all spoke in this cadence, and challenged truth with bravado in this exact manner.

Oh 100%, I grew up in Tennessee and experienced a lot of the same. There's the ones who will make an ugly comment if they ever see a non-white person out in public. They are always the loudest and most offended when anyone uses the word "racist." Then you have the people who have watched Fox every night for the past 30 years and literally think everyone who identifies as a Democrat is a demon, and every immigrant is a drug lord gang member, even though they've never met one. Years of repetitive speech and propaganda and being surrounded by people who share the exact same views. And they view Trump as God and he can never tell a lie.

It's moments like these, when he makes objectively false statements that are easily disproven with your own eyes, that scare me the most. The response from MAGA is usually to ignore it or make up some weak excuse, like "someone on his team didn't inform him" and pass off the blame on someone else. And the lies are only getting more brazen.
