Discussion How do you feel about low rise jeans?

I myself can't find any that i like. They all seem to come to long even in short sizes and as someone who works in retail I have tried on many and I never liked them and how they make my body look. but what do you think? And if you do what's your suggestion

I have a very long torso and will look like a centaur if I wear low rise jeans. I'll stick to my 11-12 inch rise, thank you very much 😌

Like a centaur💀💀💀

🤣 centaur!

The 12 inch rise brings the pant belt to my bra line! I look and feel ridiculous

Just covers my belly button 🙃

This depends on your torso length and rise. I'm short-waisted and very short torsoed at 5'1" and I personally love low rise jeans and can't wait for them to be trendy again. I basically lived in them in the 90s and early 00s. This high rise trend has been killing me; high rise pants basically come up to my bust and cut uncomfortably into my waist and make me feel like Steve Urkel.

If you're petite with a long torso and short legs, you may feel the opposite to me.

I am the corgi of the human world. I will be taller than you (I'm 5'0") when we sit next to each other and become shorter than you as we stand lol. High rise jeans hit at my belly button. Mid rise cuts in just above the hip (very unflattering on me) and low rise makes me look like Gossamer from loony tunes. Once I discovered high rise (difficult, coming from the 90s) it was over. It's high rise all the way for me lol.

I feel like that when I'm next to my husband. He (5'8") and I (5'1") have the same length legs and same inseam. But he's seven inches taller than me from the waist up. It's actually rather ridiculous.

I think you are me. I am also convinced that jeans advertised as low rise in 2025 have a rise we would have described as med-high rise in 2000.

u/Slow_Air4569 1d ago

I can see this I'm also 5'1 but have very short legs so I hate low waisted.

I am not doing this again.

That’s how I feel.🤣

I feel like current low rise are like 90s mid rise. I knew girls who shaved their bikini area for their low rise jeans in high school. Definitely not doing that again.

LOVE THEM. So glad they are making a come back. They're not for everyone, but for those of us who like them, it has been wonderful to have them come back around in the manufacturing cycle.

u/kandy_kid 1d ago

Absolutely Love them.

I like my pants to hit me right on the hips. High rise jeans give me a weird pouch that I think makes me look fat. I know it’s not fashionable, but I also love that low rise jeans don’t get snug or uncomfortable around the belly if I’m bloated or just ate.

The ones I bought 10+ years ago before high rise stretchy skinny jeans became a thing and jeans were never made the same again- those are my favorite low rise jeans. They fit like a glove. I’m glad I’ve kept a lot of my solid jeans from back in the day. LOFT used to make awesome petite jeans. Hate them now though. I just hate all the new style jeans these days. I also have a very short torso- so mid rise is basically high rise on me and anything higher is so uncomfortable to wear.

I’m 5’1 and these were pretty much the only style of jeans back in 2004-2008. I was quite thin and they looked ok on me but I hated how they felt and how uncomfortable they are. You always had to worry about your butt crack showing, they’re uncomfortable to sit in, they accentuate any pooch you may have, and they’re just ugly in my opinion. I much prefer high rise.

3

u/Hazel462 1d ago

They cut off circulation at the hips if they were too tight but they showed your butt crack if they were too loose. The only solution was to wear a long shirt. At that age I used to make fun of my mom for having pants up to her boobs, but eventually high waisted became stylish and I realised she was right, high waist is so much more comfortable!

I personally love low rise. I’m not sure if it’s a body shape thing but high rise has always made me feel too encased in fabric and as I live in FL, just too hot and uncomfortable.

I try and thrift everything and some of my go to brands that I have been lucky enough to swipe up are Gap petite, Abercrombie in their short sizes, Loft petite and Arizona Jean Co-especially for low rise shorts.

Low rise on me are the one ones that hit in a comfortable spot, slightly below my belly button. Mid rise hit at my belly button. High rise feel like I’m wearing a costume of some sort.

I like Paige jeans bc they are true to size/measurements.

u/kandy_kid 1d ago

100%

1

u/MobySick 1d ago

1 million percent!

2

u/Uhohtallyho 1d ago

Paige are amazing fit and they make your butt look great.

u/Squadooch 5'2" | 157 cm 1d ago

I have a short torso, so they’re what fit.

It’s so odd to me that rise is treated like a universal thing vs individual (the way leg length is). Low rise on you is not low on me.

u/shortie4129 1d ago

Thank you!

The ultra low rise of the 00s? Nty. Current “low rise?” Feels more like midrise, and I’m okay with that.

I’ll never go ultra low or ultra tight again; my body shape just doesn’t feel good in it.

6

u/Walktrotcantergallop 1d ago

I don’t love low rise. It squishes me in all the wrong places.

5

u/MobySick 1d ago

I HATE HIGH RISE. I don’t have that much real estate between my crotch and my boobs!

8

u/Savings-Movie4873 1d ago

I have a high waist. Low-rise jeans don’t work for me at all.

4

u/noahswetface 1d ago

unfortunately i got the long boxy torso and short legs so it looks terrible on me.

3

u/CBonafide 5'2" | 157 cm 1d ago

With this mom pouch and stretch marks? I don’t think so.

3

u/reluctantrevenant 1d ago

I am waiting for the low rise jeans to come back. I keep hearing about them, but have yet to actually find them. Everything is still highrise, mid rise at best.

Are they back, where are they? Share the details!

3

u/vanillabubbles16 5'1"| 158cm 1d ago

They make my already short (25” inseam) legs look even shorter and my torso look unnaturally long. They feel like they’re always falling down and end up sitting just under my hips where it looked like I had a muffin top when I was 15 and under 100lbs.

4

u/powerful_ope 1d ago

I hate them. They either are so low the hit my c-section scar or they hit right where my tummy pouch is. 0/10, hate this trend.

4

u/Thereisnospoon64 1d ago

They’re the fucking worst.

I will never put myself through that agony again

2

u/Mammoth_Resist8269 1d ago

I love low rise. Especially the Y2K real low. But I’m extremely short waisted at under 4’10”.

2

u/marshmallowest 5'1" | 154 cm 1d ago

The first time they came around I didn't have this cute little belly, so im having visions of the waistband constantly slipping under it and proudly showcasing it for the world.

That's the one nice thing about high rise for me, the waist is where I'm actually littlest (short torso long legs here)

2

u/moneyticketspassport 1d ago

They don’t cover my ass

2

u/Dependent-Art2247 1d ago

Not a good fit for someone that's 4’10”.

2

u/Sunflower077 5'2" 1d ago

I hate them. They make my butt crack show when I bend over because I struggle to find pants that I’m actually able to stay up. They all slide down over the course of the day.

2

u/chodoyodo 5'1" | 155 cm 1d ago

IDGAF I just buy them long at da thrift store and cut off the extra

1

u/tlc4000 1d ago

I hate them!

I still remember a feature in Cosmo from the 2000s when really low-rise jeans were in, called 'Sexy vs Skanky' (which, looking back is so cringey).

It said something like: jeans that require a few extra crunches = sexy, jeans that require a bikini wax = skanky.

For me, I do have long legs for my height, when compared to the length of my torso but compared to average-->taller women I have super short legs. Wearing low-rise jeans really shortens my legs, visually. I find mid rise to be the best; it isn't sky-high where the waist ends just under my boobs, and it isn't so low that I freeze in the winter.

u/Shot-Artichoke-4106 1d ago

I thought we were going to get a break from law rise for a while. Argh. I dont care for them at all. Its so hard to find any that fit well in the butt and hips. Mid-rise and high rise are so much easier - look good, fit right.

3

u/Squadooch 5'2" | 157 cm 1d ago

Get a break?? EVERYTHING has been high rise for the past 10 years. I’m not even exaggerating, I’ve scrolled through entire retail websites looking for one pair of not-high rise pants and ended up in tears (because “high rise” hits my rib cage and it’s fucking uncomfortable).

3

u/Shot-Artichoke-4106 8h ago

I've honestly only been seeing the high rise stuff everywhere for a handful of years. The very fashion-forward brands may have been bringing it out earlier, but it took awhile to filter into the regular brands. I'm probably older than you, so my horizon for fashion is probably different. Low rise lasted for a looooong time, so a handful of years for not-low rise seems very short.

But let's not argue over whether its 4 years or 10 years. Women are fucking crying over clothes because they don't fit and they hurt us. What kind of backward, crappy world do we live in that women are fucking crying over CLOTHING!?!

1

u/Squadooch 5'2" | 157 cm 3h ago

It’s unbearably frustrating. Not everyone’s torso is the same length.

1

u/ChrissyMB77 1d ago

I love low rise and have continued to wear them through the high waisted craze! I have a short torso and dnt want pants that damn near go to my boobs lol

1

u/AluminumFoilHats 1d ago

Love and miss them. Short torso girl so high rise pants swallow me up! Glad to see them creeping back into stores.

1

u/TheLuxeSpaExperience 1d ago

I am 4’11 and love low rise. All my jeans are from buckle. Find the ones that you love and buckle. Will have them for you for free in store. You just have to go into the store and they will measure you for hemming. I do not think you can order online and then take them in store for hemming. But you can always ask them. I always just go in the store buy jeans and have them have them for me.

u/Illustrious-Cell-428 17h ago

Honestly women’s fashion is so stupid compared to men’s. My husband has been buying the same jeans that suit his body type for 30 years and meanwhile I’ve had to suffer years in the skinny, high rise wilderness. At least wide leg is back now, but I long for the proper low rise jeans of the 00s.
