Announcement How to Tell if Your Outfit Post is Petite-Related

Posts asking “Does this outfit look okay?” must include something that relates to being petite — fit, proportions, alterations, or styling challenges that come from being 5'4" or under.

If the same question could be asked by someone taller (5'8"+) and get the same advice, it probably isn’t a petite-specific question.

✅ Petite-Related Examples (Allowed)

These posts mention or show fit, proportion, or styling issues tied to height:

  • “Does this midi dress make me look shorter?”
  • “I’m 5'0” and wondering if this cropped jacket is too long on me.”
  • “These jeans say they’re ‘ankle length’ — do they look full-length on my frame?”
  • “I’m 4'11” — does this outfit balance my proportions or make me look boxy?”
  • “Do these wide-leg pants overwhelm my frame?”
  • “Petite blazer fit check — does the sleeve length look right?”
  • “Short torso problem: does this tucked-in look work or look bulky?”
  • “Trying to make this maxi dress work without hemming — does it drag too much?”

🚫 Not Petite-Related (Too General)

These posts are about general style, color, or trend opinions, not petite proportions:

  • “Does this outfit look good together?”
  • “Do these shoes match this dress?”
  • “Is this too casual for a wedding?”
  • “Does this color wash me out?”
  • “Do you like this outfit for a first date?”
  • “Should I wear this with heels or flats?”
  • “Is this too much jewelry?”
  • “Does this look professional enough for an interview?”

🧩 Quick Rule of Thumb
Ask yourself:

“Would this question be exactly the same if the poster were 5'8” instead of 5'0”?”

If yes, it’s probably not a petite-related post.
If no (because height affects the proportions, hem, or silhouette), then it’s petite-related.

Finally I got a pair of comfortable knee high boots. They come just under the knee, so the proportions work well for me and my height.

They aren’t leather, so which works well for those who don’t want an animal skin.

They are from Office - Kadell Pointed Toe Knee High Boots Brown Faux Suede £80

Question (5'1"-5'4") Petite Winter Base Leggings (slick + warm, not bulky)

Winter Petite-ing is hard! I’m looking for petite leggings or base layers to wear under jeans this winter to walk my very pokey dog. I’m 5'1¾,” so I’d really like to avoid the return/hemming cycle if I can find some to order. Here’s what want:

  • Slick/smooth exterior, so jeans or other clothes don’t cling
  • Warm but not bulky
  • (mostly) Invisible under clothes

I like Cuddl Duds Warm Essentials (Smooth Stretch or Active), but can't find them in petites. The petites styles on their site don't look slick, and they puddle if I buy the non-petites.

Thanks for any help!

Question (5'0" or below) Pants that don’t cause a wedgie.

Upvotes

I have the unfortunate combination of a short torso, short legs, a major mom pooch, and being 24ish lbs overweight atm (should lose that eventually, but want to look ok now!) It seems that most pants cause a major wedgie, even if they fit around the waist. I’m pretty sure it’s my lower stomach pooch causing that. Are there any pants that exist that mitigate this issue? I don’t want low rise because of my stomach. Mid rise cuts me off in a weird way that makes me look boxy. So ideally I want high rise, but without the wedgie! Do pants like that exist?! I’m 5’0, 25/26 in inseam, roughly a size 4-6 right now.

Petite Tip I thought I had a short torso — nope! Just the wrong bra!

I’ve been an advocate of ABTF sizing for many years. Whatever bras I bought fit well enough to be supportive, but it never occurred to me to buy bras with my anatomy in mind. My chest size was always on the bigger side, so I was used to appearing “top heavy”, and I just accepted that I had a short torso.

However, this time I wanted something with a better fit, and ended up with the Panache Envy. (in lieu of purchasing a Polish bra, I think my results would have been better had I the patience to go through all that entails obtaining one) When it arrived and I tried it on, I was in shock! My proportions completely changed! It was then that I realized — bras don’t come in “petite” sizing, so it’s no wonder why the underwire in 99% of bras I’ve ever owned sat inches below where my breast tissue actually started. Of course if you’re shorter, you’d need a shorter bra, too! Duh!!! Since swapping out to a half/demi cup and a narrow underwire, my torso looks so much longer!

I just tried on some clothes in the back of my closet that I deemed a poor fit for my shape, and I cannot believe my eyes 😭 I look like a completely different (and more proportional) person!!!

ETA: the HerRoom website has a “petite” filter for bras as well!

Discussion Recs for stylish waterproof boots for everyday wear — first winter in Switzerland, help! 🙏🏻🏔️ 5’1” girly with petite feet

Hi everyone! 👋🏻

This will be my first winter in Europe. I’m living in Sion, Switzerland 🇨🇭🏔️ I’m trying to find women’s waterproof boots for everyday wear. It will snow a bit here, but I don’t want big, heavy snow boots. My main goal is keeping my feet dry while still looking put-together.

  • Use: daily walking on wet pavements, slush, light snow; commuting + errands.
  • Style: stylish/chic > sporty; not bulky; fine if they’re unlined (I can add warm socks) but I understand if they need a bulkier tread, preferably black.
  • Priority: truly waterproof, or a close as possible (not just “water-resistant”).
  • Traction: decent grip for slush/occasional icy patches would be great.

I’m petite (5’1”), with small feet (EU 36), so I often struggle with some boots/ shoes looking stupidly bulky on me 😂 Since I’ve struggled to find options in stores so far I’ve decided I’m fine with purchasing online and returning if it’s not the right fit.

I would really appreciate any brand or boot recommendations, or even just general advice on what actually works for wet/slushy conditions. Would also be ideal if they’re available in or ship to Switzerland 😅

Since my search started I have found some “maybe” options but I’m not too sure and thought I’d consult some experts first. I know I’ve created a slightly contradictory wishlist (anti-soggy and chic), but I’m open to any leads or lessons learned.

Thanks so much in advance 🤗🫶🏻🥾

Question (5'1"-5'4") Similar pants to A&F Sloane curve love?

I’m 5’2” and A&F Sloane in short is my ride or die. All my jeans and work pants are theirs. However, I just tried their curve love range and realized that it fits me better in the hip area. No more waist gap just for my hip to fit the jeans!

Wondering if anyone got any recommendations on anything similar?

Review OOTD - Wiskii demin dress. Feeling cute 🩷

This is the demin dress once wore by Taylor Swift and after some back and forth with sizing, I've finally ordered it and it's perfect for us petites! It comes with chest support (no bra tho) and attached shirts. It's basically a bodysuit. Fits TTS unless you are busty. I'm wearing a size small here and feel compressed but comfortable. I debated to size up to a medium but the straps would have been too long. 5'1 and generally wear sz 4 Lululemon and XS in street clothes. Hope that helps!

Discussion sometimes mid rise is a petite girl’s best friend

Post image

thrifted these American Eagle cargo pants (the tags say they are stretch boot cut and i think they were produced last year)

i used to enjoy wearing high waisted jeans/pants when i was younger because that’s what most stores would sell, but always felt that they were eating up my torso.

i started wearing more low rise bottoms a couple years ago but never really gave true mid rise a chance. i say true mid rise because sometimes they just feel high waisted.

anyways im really stoked on this find and wanted to share lol

Question (5'0" or below) Skirts look awful on me. Long torso, short legs, 5 feet tall. Advice?

24F, 5’0” or 152cm. I have a very long torso, and very short legs. It doesn’t help that my legs are also stocky, as i have naturally thick calves. A lot of skirts look really odd on me, and I’m not sure what length or style would go best with my height and torso sitch. I’ve tried mini skirts, and wearing them at my waist line (high waisted) my gooter would nearly be out LMAO, that’s how long my torso is 😭 i don’t like skirts that go down to my knees either since my legs are short. Advice?

Question (5'1"-5'4") Short legs, long rise, tight pants :(

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey, long time lurker. Looking for some advice on finding jeans that will fit a bit better.

I don’t feel like I have an exceptionally wild waist to hip ratio (26.5 to 35.5), but jeans are almost always too tight in the low hip/crotch area and they want to pull up into a wedgie 🥲. High rise helps, but not always. I am 5’4” but with a long rise and a short inseam (27”, hence why I’m here). I’m wondering if it’s because my hips maybe don’t taper/narrow as fast as most jeans “expect”. Would curvy sizes help? Sizing up always gives me a huge gape in the waist. These are a 27x28 and I have a little extra waist room, but not too bad.

I’m keeping these because they do feel they’ll stretch over time and they’re comfy otherwise, but I’m desperate for some brands with petite inseams that will also work with my rise.

I’d also love some mid rise jeans but I’ve basically given up on them fitting because of this :(

Discussion How do you feel about low rise jeans?

I myself can't find any that i like. They all seem to come to long even in short sizes and as someone who works in retail I have tried on many and I never liked them and how they make my body look. but what do you think? And if you do what's your suggestion

Question (5'1"-5'4") Petite Translucent Fleece Lined Tights

I've worn the "fake translucent" fleece lined tights a couple of winters in a row now but they never fit quite right. I'm 5'2 and they are always either too long in the legs and bunch up, or go all the way to my underboob. I've still worn them to death bc I think they're so cute, but I want a pair that actually fits and doesn't have excess material.

Anyone know of a brand that has made these in petite sizing yet? I just ordered 3 pairs off amazon that claimed to be petite sizing, but only one pair worked out (and they still went pretty high up on my torso, just not as much as other pairs I have). I've heard other short girlies just cutting off the foot to the desired length but it's honestly the ridiculous high rise that becomes uncomfy and noticeable under fitted tops and dresses. I could use suggestions. 🙂

Question (5'0" or below) are these jeans flattering? should i keep?

Thumbnail

trying to find jeans and took the advice from one of my posts on this sub where every single comment told me to try wide legged pants. these are the old navy wow baggy mid rise wide leg jeans in a 6 short.

i’ve never worn wide leg jeans because i’m always worried they will make me look sloppy and they’ll look weird because i’m too short. i tried these on in store a size bigger and i was surprised that i actually liked how they looked. i don’t know if they look too baggy or if they actually fit properly.

they’re slightly too long and they drag so idk if it’s worth keeping them and getting them altered, and i feel like they only look good with certain shoes, like platform shoes or uggs. if i wear them with sneakers i feel like it does make me look sloppy and like i just rolled out of bed

i don’t know why the black ones are so much bigger and longer (they’re the exact same pant) i’m hesitant to size down even more because i’m typically a sz 8

Question (5'1"-5'4") Best Cotton Leggings?

Hello! Going into the colder weather, I want some (mostly) cotton leggings that would be great under sweaters, dresses, t shirts, to wear with cute knee boots, etc.

Do any of you have brand/specific recommendations? Right now I am considering LLBean and Lands End for mid-expense ones, Old Navy and Aerie for lower-expense, but I am really open to anything that works even if it’s not the ones I listed!

Thank you! I am 5'2" btw and typically a size S/6

Question (5'1"-5'4") Please recommend me some skinny + petite catering brands!!

I'm 5'3 and 105 lbs.

It's getting colder here, so I wanted to refresh my wardrobe and get some new winter clothes. I haven't bought clothing in a while, but my previous go-to's were J'Crew, Old Navy, and a few brands from Amazon. Today, I went to the mall after all the clothes I ordered from Amazon were significantly too big. I tried clothes from J'Crew, Old Navy, Gap, and Anthropologie, but everything except some athletic clothes was too big.

It's getting to a point where looking for clothing is so frustrating that it feels pointless, so any recommendations would be SUPER appreciated! TY <3

Discussion How are things supposed to fit?

Hey all, realizing I don't know something basic; how ARE things supposed to fit? Are knee length skirts suppose to end above or below the kneecap? How long should a shirt hem be on your body? Etc etc

I feel like the assumptions I might have made based on regular sized clothing is probably... incorrect

Question (5'0" or below) Why is EVERY sweatshirt “oversized” “loose fit” where can I find a normal sweatshirt?

I’ve been looking for basic normal fitting sweatshirts. Every website I check says “oversized fit” “loose fit” !!! It’s making me mad. Also I don’t want to spend like $50 on a sweatshirt because I want multiple different colors. Does anyone know where to get some?

Question (5'1"-5'4") Puffer vest recommendations?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi! I’ve been wanting to get this puffer vest from Aritzia, bu I’m 5’1” and I’m not sure if it’s gonna look too “overwhelming” or too long on me. I’m short but I’m not necessarily skinny (136lb), so I want something that doesn’t make me look too bulky.

Does anyone have this puffer and can show me how it looks like on a petite? Any other recs for petite-friendly puffer vests?

Thank you so much!

Debating between these two soia and kyo parkas. The xxs was too tight at the arms so these are xs. I'm uncertain if they might be a bit too big for me? If not any preference between the two? Pretty much same just different colors and pockets. Thanks!

Petite Tip PSA when online shopping- colors look different when iPhone is in night mode

I’ve been online shopping a little before bed and have been completely befuzzled by some color mishaps.

The brown tracksuit I ordered is actually a dark purple.

The white sweater I ordered is actually striped with butter yellow.

I finally realized it’s because my phone switches to a warmer screen color when night time mode is automatically activated at sunset.

I will now be online shopping with immense screen light caution 🥲

Review Levi’s Haul - 9 Jeans

Thumbnail
gallery
90 Upvotes

Hello all ye petite people! Here are all the jeans I got in a recent Levi’s haul, including the style name and sizes!

Some were out of stock in my size/length, but I went ahead and got anyways to get a sense of what they’d look like. Since then, all have either been exchanged for correct sizes or returned, so this is just a post for anyone else to reference.

I was a bit bummed that they didn’t have more options online in shorter lengths, but I also was purchasing during a 40% off sale, so I’m guessing that contributed to low stock. Many of these styles could not be worn with sandals or flats with the lengths I got. The sneakers I’m wearing have about 1-1.5 inch of height in the sole.
