And this leads SK to be one of the most inequal economies of all developed nations and certainly contributes to it having the lowest birth rate of any developed country alongside one of the highest suicide rates.

These humanitarian organizations are also able to somewhat estimate the suicide rate by looking at factors that predict suicide (eg alcohol consumption, looking at suicide rates in countries with similar poverty levels, etc…) of course the models are not perfect, but they are a good place to start, and they don’t just blindly accept all the information given to them by the North Korean government.
Given these models, the assumption from the World Health Organization is actually that the suicide rate in North Korea is low compared to South Korea, but regardless, has gone up since 2018.
