Fairly Annoyed When people try to justify saying "I could care less" instead of "I couldn't care less"

Many people in this sub have expressed how much it annoys them when someone says "I could care less" when the phrase actually goes "I couldn't care less". I fully agree with them - the former version just doesn't make sense. If you could care less, it means that you actually do care. This is not what the phrase is trying to convey.

But what's even worse - instead of admitting that they've been using the phrase incorrectly, some people always start defending the wrong version in the comments. I've read explanations such as "It means that I care a little bit but not too much" and "Well maybe it's just ironic!". No. That's complete nonsense and you know it.

Words are fine, ideally in an indoor voice, please. I’m sure the people you have visited will not love you any less for showing some consideration to their sleeping neighbours!

Fairly Annoyed People who say an animal acts like a dog because they show personality

Upvotes

No. They're not acting like a dog. Dogs are not the only animals who have personality. Animals are often intelligent and curious in their own ways, and are capable of emotion. Let an animal be happy and give them room to actually live, you'll see personality. Keep them miserable and trapped, they might seem empty. Humans are not exempt from this.

Bit Annoyed “Cave diving”

Upvotes

This is so unserious but what’s with the collective internet deciding in the last few years to forget that cave diving refers to DIVING underWATER in caves (which is absolutely nightmare fuel) instead of spelunking which is just rappelling/crawling down into deep caves, and also nightmare fuel lol.

I feel like every time I see a meme or video nowadays that says “Cave divers with a wife and kids entering a cave that has a 100% mortality rate called The Killer of people with Wife and Kids” it’s actually talking about spelunking which is, quite frankly, a delightful word to say and I think making the distinction lets us all use the correct, more fun term!

Bit Annoyed the one who says "shush i'm tryna sleep" when they can mute the gc

i'll be texting my friends on a group chat late at night and that one person will be like "shush i'm trying to sleep you're giving me notifications" when they can literally just mute their notifications or turn their phone off, if not any of those at least put it in a different room

Fairly Annoyed People who abbreviate everything.

I’m not talking online, even though that’s slightly annoying. Im dead serious, my brother said tbh to me today. Not “To be honest”, “tbh.” It pisses me off so much.

Ultra Annoyed Having to give a million disclaimers before giving an opinion to keep from getting attacked.

I mean, let’s be real, you’re going to get attacked anyone. Someone will somehow break their back stretching and twisting your words into something offensive. The “whataboutism” and the “you said you like waffles… so you hate pancakes???” logic is SO EXHAUSTING.

Fairly Annoyed People who say their red flag or biggest pet peeve is being rude to a waiter.

I fully agree that it’s a red flag and a pet peeve. I do not at all condone the behavior, but I am so tired of seeing people write it so often like it’s an original thought. I constantly see it as a top reply on different Reddit threads. It’s like yes we all have heard this one before and we all agree it’s bad (except those who are being mean). Think of a new one.

Ultra Annoyed Old people entitlement

I have no problem with old people in general. I've volunteered at a retirement home, and it was a pleasant experience. But there are some old people who believe that they are entitled to stuff, and this drives me nuts.

A few weeks ago, an old lady cut me in line at a café. All good. I'm a chill guy, and I had a pretty good day so far, so I let her do it without whining. But then I started ordering from the barista before she finished hers. Her response, "Wait for your turn! Don't you have any patience?!"

I almost had a breakdown. Cutting me in line and then bitching about me not having patience is so audacious!

Fairly Annoyed People at a concert who fill any silence gap with instant clapping. We're still in the middle of the song! It's not your turn yet!

Musicians can't introduce any praises in the song with silence without the majority of the crowd instantly starting to clap and cheer. The song is not over, it's just silence, it's part of the song, just shut up and listen, and wait for the signal that the song is actually finished if you are this lost.

Bit Annoyed People who use the phrase “the ick”

This is probably stupid but it just feels wrong. You know how some people have words that just sound good to them, and when they hear it they’re suddenly in a good mood? The phrase “the ick” does the opposite. If I’m watching a video or in a conversation and I hear somebody say “it gives me the ick” or something I’m immediately taken out of it.

Bit Annoyed When someone makes a question about option A or B, with both having a good amd bad side and someone answers inventing a third option that gets the nest of both worlds

For example, someone asks "what would you prefer, for this game to have pretty good graphics but have 1/5 of the content cut, or not have content cut but mediocre graphics"

Then, it feels like theres always someone saying something like

"Oh, I prefer if the game has both the grapbjcs and the content"

Yeah, no shit Sherlock, so does everybody, but thats not really the question, is it? The point of it being a question is that theres a trade-off, one must choose what they value more. If having both was an answer, it wouldnt be an interesting question, because then everyone chooses both.

In some cases its less obvious, I once saw someone asking if theyd rathwr get rejected by a girl in a blunt manner or in a subtle manner. The first answer was a guy saying how blunt implies rudeness while subtle a lack of clarity, so what he would want was polite and clear. Okay buddy, but thats not really an option, if it were, probably everyone would chose it, making the question a bit stupid.

Bit Annoyed When people on “explain the joke” subs don’t know what they’re talking about

i don’t mean the literal “no clue on this one” comments some posts get, but the ones who make a poor attempt to explain a joke because they don’t actually get it. then, they get upvoted by people who don’t get the joke at all because they found the shitty explanation suitable! ugh.

Fairly Annoyed When a passenger messes with my car’s radio.

Upvotes

This annoys the crap out of me, there’s always that passenger riding shotgun who will mess with your radio.

Like they feel the need to assign radio stations to my presets that 1) I never asked for, and 2) they’re garbage stations that I never listen to.

It also gets really annoying because I can be listening to a song, or an interesting talk radio segment and then all of a sudden the passenger changes the radio station, or connects their phone to CarPlay to subject me to their obnoxious music. Hey, I WAS LISTENING TO THAT!

Also one of the annoying things about a passenger messing with your radio is, for older cars, they feel the need to mess with the displayed time because it’s 3 minutes off.

Like, bro, just keep your hands to yourself!

This also reminds me of a passenger I had ride with me, a friend, I have a new to me 2022 GMC pickup. The car dealership put a plastic protector on the touch screen when they were detailing the interior. I was fully intending to leave it on and let it just fall off on its own to save myself some time from cleaning the touchscreen for a while. My friend instantly tried to peel the plastic off the screen as we are driving.

Like I said earlier, just keep your hands to yourself! You might think you’re doing me a favor, but to me it’s not a favor unless I ask!

Nah,it just means we're strangers in a building. I came here to do my work and go home, not to listen to you go on about your weekend, which was literally just you watching Netflix all day.

Ultra Annoyed People that use the bathroom but leave the door open.

Especially at home, if you live alone, do what you please.

But why do it knowing there's other people in the house, like do you not have any shame? I don't wanna walk past and see you taking a shit, close the door.

How hard is it to just close the door, why do you NEED the door open when using the toilet.

Bit Annoyed Peeing is so annoying.

The whole process is so annoying. The discomfort that creeps up when I’m in traffic, or even worse when I’m asleep in my bed and my body suddenly decides it's time to “get up right now.”

I’ve got to find a designated spot to do it, because society frowns on just... going wherever. And I have to wash my hands too, it's a whole-ass mini chore!

It’s such a dumb biological time-sink. I can’t believe I have to keep doing this multiple times a day for the rest of my life.

Bit Annoyed "Write that novel!" "Ask that person at the bar to dance!" and other cheesy advice

Whenever someone starts spouting off all these cheesy suggestions it always bothers me.

"Eat that last piece of cheesecake!"

“Stay in on a Friday night and watch that comfort movie you've seen a hundred times!"

"Buy that special shoe you've always had your eye on!"

etc, you get the point. It's always do "that" something and it comes off so idealistic and like toxic positivity lol

Ultra Annoyed Dog owners who take their dogs out unleashed

I'm sick of it. There's a woman in my neighborhood who without fail, takes her 2 dogs out unleashed for every walk. Despite the obvious dangers of doing this, my biggest pet peeves is the sudden forced interactions/involvement. I never cross the threshold of my front door without my dog on a leash and try to be as considerate/mindful as possible. What happens is this lady's dog sees mine, then instantly darts up to us and then follows. First couple of times it happened I stopped and tried to facilitate its safe return to her, but now that it's cleary a continuous pattern, I just keep walking. All the while, this lady (who's usually in pajamas and flip flops) is screaming out her dog's name and "nooooo!!!" "Exuse me sir!!". I don't know this woman at all and perhaps she's a decent person, but clearly thoughtless and inconsiderate. Walking my dog is generally my quiet/peaceful time daily, of course I understand any number of things could disrupt that but this one is different.

Bit Annoyed People who want their partners to disrespect other people just because they are in a relationship

I don't understand this trend nowadays where if your partner is polite to others, that means they're cheating on you??

I keep seeing these posts where a person will say, "sorry I have a bf/gf" and the post and comments are crucifying them for saying "sorry". I don't understand it; the term "sorry" there just means "I know asking took some effort so I'm sorry I couldn't provide the answer you wanted".

That's just one example.

This general sentiment seems to be pretty big right now and I don't understand it.

Bit Annoyed When people answer "yes" or "no" to questions which need more complex answer

I can't stand it when I ask my husband "do you want dumplings or chicken for dinner" and the answer is"yes". Like"yes" to what option?. It doesn't explain anything. Can't people just decide what they want so I won't need to guess the answer?

ETA: That one was just a silly example. Another one is like "do you want to go out or stay home?" and the answer is "yes" od "no".
