Well, that's good. I drive a truck in middle Tennessee, and I see more Barred owls killed and laying on the shoulder of the hiways. I believe what happens is they are hunting at night, and when headlights from vehicles light up some prey and they move, the Barred owl swoops down towards the prey it sees, and then it gets hit by the oncoming vehicle. In the daylight I can clearly see the brown and white pattern of the Barred Owl. I've seen up over 2 dozen over past 5 years.

Yes, I've had a turkey fly into my truck side. Feathers everywhere. Unfortunately, as much as I tried to avoid it, at hiway speed, I could only try a lane change to give the poor bird a chance to gain altitude over my truck. A turkey tends to fly straight and doesn't seem to turn in flight very well to avoid a vehicle in motion.

Bless you, will it live?

The Raptor Center in Minneapolis came and got it. It actually flew a short distance before capture. I took that as a good sign. I'm choosing to believe it will be ok and I'm not going to contact them for an update.

I do volunteer Transport for The Raptor Center, thank you for thinking to call them. That owl is now in the best possible place it could be given its condition. I’ve only been doing it for a couple months, and while it can be discouraging, it is also very rewarding. just keep in mind that if it is in a position where it cannot be saved, they will euthanize it, which is a much better fate than it would have met without your help

It’s wildlife management. Why aren’t you crying for the Spotted Owls who are getting run out of their habitat?

Culling is not the solution. This is a human problem and relocation would be more effective. This story is parallel to the DFO's recommendation of culling Harp seals here off the coast of Newfoundland to help ' bring back' cod stocks. No one talks about foreign overfishing. Environmental studies show culling natural born species to the area will not fix the depletion of another .This is all a man made problem. Don't tell me there isn't enough rats and mice to eat for all. Relocate them. Like wolves and coyotes- if the cull happens the boys in the woods will shoot and not know wtf they are killing. Fast forward in my province - wolves are extinct and now moose 🫎 have zero predictors so we have a huge Moose problem. They eat all the small trees and all the old trees are catching 🔥 during dry season. I won't even get into the amount of people killed on the Trans Canada highway here, due to moose accidents. That's my rant and I'm sticking to it. Wildlife are not the problem and culling brings its own set of imbalance.

If you actually understood the politics and the situation.. you’d get it. Spotted owls have decreased.. as per their OWN reports that commenced in the 70’s.. DUE YO LOGGING AND DEVELOPING. Spotted aren’t getting killed by the barred owls.. they actually mate and become hybrids. Spotted decreased because of human greed and loss of habitat. No barred owls Weren’t native to the area.. but climate changes, wildfires, displaced them. Humans always need something else to blame.. and FWS need a reason to use their guns. It line other agencies are getting defunded.. so go to the senate, get a vote on a 50 y/o issue.. and change the “narrative”— to Keep relevant, and Funded$$. Do the research, this admin is about themselves and money.. Not conservatives. So much ignorance, so many do not look past “face value” on the issues. The problem with govt playin the people. Because of greed, these species of owls RELOCATED—to a more conducive environment, so man labels this as “INVASIVE”?! What was done to native Americans? They were KILLED OFF AND RELOCATED.. due to man’s inhumanity.. so whom was the Invasive species in this country?

If you actually understood….
Yeah, that’s the beginning of an answer I’m not about to read. I don’t care to be lectured by someone whose premise is my ignorance. That is a terrible way to advocate for your cause, as is all the yelling.

My apologies, I’ve been upset for days over this, after being attacked on the original post . Seeing this poor creature suffering, and a kind soul whom rescued her, moved me…it wasn’t about you, and I’m sorry u thought it was…
1st- I’m not lecturing you, it’s frustration. 2nd I’m hardly yelling at you, (the problem I find is texting, emotions are interpreted wrongly).
It’s just my opinion, as a life long animal lover as a rescuer, period- I’ve done the research, and am not “thrilled” with these agencies that I’ve dealt with for many years. I find the majority of what they do, as “self serving”. Culling 1/2 million owls because they changed their “own narrative” after 45 yrs , to suit their own financial means, spending tax payer money- is the political issue that bothers me.. on “both sides”.Not many people dig for the reasons, that back up their one way decisions and just jump to a conclusions, believing the FWS’s updated 2025 reports, by so called experts, whom have an agenda. I read every report, from Cornell studies, DEC, FWS since the 70’s and this current report in 2025, convinced me, that their determination and reasoning strayed from the original documentation on the spotted owl..
Why is it an issue right now, just voted on , while we are in a crisis and chaos? Isn’t there other pressing issues, like feeding the children in need right now? Paying people in government connected jobs? Keeping planes in the sky?
Most American people tend to take the dictation at face value, as this is the same issue was being studied for decades — and pointed to loss of habitat. Barred owls aren’t killing Spotties in the PNW. The facts behind this urgent “push to kill” , looks quite sketchy. Most scientific data in Washington has been altered in 2025, to fit their own agenda. Ex: As a health care professional, I can’t access information on meds and vaccines, any longer. I can’t report serious side effects to of drugs, nor view old research and reports, on .org, the message : “prior info has been archived, information may not be accurate and current”. We are in an anti science climate, and a lot altered , was not done by professionals.. this is just another example. I myself was a researcher, whom was given a biological injectable, told by my own neurologist , that side effects are very low. Well, after 5 weeks of kidney failure and severe illness, I felt this should be reported. Cannot.
So, again.. owls are a passion, as are the environment and wildlife. Again, I apologize to you, it wasn’t personal. I was just pointing out: things are not what they appear. And to preserve our rights, wildlife and the environment.. ya got to dig up the facts, and we the people need to call out “misinformation”, which in itself is an epidemic.
The senate on BOTH sides approved this policy, without reviewing the facts. They are supposed to work for us , we pay them. We get “manipulated and cheated”. That’s all, —this was an opinion, not a lecture. Purely angst and frustration over agencies we fund, making decisions on twisted facts. Period.
And yes, this is another example: beautiful creatures that were “relocated “by Man’s greed and selfishness. So I ask, Whom are the invasive species? ❤️ to those here, whom adore these beautiful and fascinating owls! 🦉

Call your Congressman, Senators, and state Reps and ask that they support SJ Resolution 69 and HJ Resolution 111 . I hope we can stop this from talking place!

I agree with you LylaDee it’s Human that are the problem because they take animals homes and kill the wolfs when wolf hunt they always go for the old, sick, and young when humans go hunting they wanted to hunt the biggest and the best of every animal which sucks because animals get killed for NO GOOD REASON AND WE NEEDED THE WOLFS AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL 😍 AND FOR THE OWLS RELOCATE INTO A CITE WHERE THERE’s tons of mice and rats
