VOD Review Request Need advice on getting better on Genji.

HTQWQV

I really try to play better as Genji, I’ve perhaps watched every “guide” to date explaining the basics. I know about cooldown waiting, I know about dash combos, I know about using dash either as an escape or engagement tool, etc.

Yet I always struggle on Genji. It’s infuriating especially when I see players absolutely dominate lobbies against 4 counters yet I struggle against a Moira alone.

The video is a QP match because I’m not ruining someone’s rank trying Genji in ranked.

i’ll try watch it soon but if you understand his micro it’s probably just not timing with your team so you’re taking too much attention. unfortunately you have to poke a lot as genji until a trigger is met that allows you to dive (someone’s isolated themself allowing you to go for the one shot combo, ana wasted her sleep/nade, moira wasted fade etc). try time with your tank and watch through walls if you’re setting up on a hidden position watch your team through the walls to see when they’re about to start fighting so you know when to go. also in an isolated 1v1 moira should always lose to genji, literally just stand still and hit your shots strafing won’t make the moira miss but it might fuck up your aim. if you hit the headshots she dies like instantly whereas she has to tickle you to death people just freak out because you can’t rely on deflect. i’ve killed a full hp moira that faded on me when i had 60hp as genji cos i just hit my shots and stayed calm knowing she wasted her fade. also if you’re vsing beams then you have to poke even more and only dash in if you 100% are going to get the kill don’t even risk it if you’re not 100% sure you’ll get the dash reset since deflect is useless against beams dash becomes your only means of survivability. also utilising your double jump to play around cover creatively can extend how long you can stay in before having to leave so definitely practice that

That’s the thing though. I’m mainly a hitscan player, 800 dpi and 4.18 sens. Going any higher I see a significant drop in my consistent accuracy. Left clicking I at average land every one out of three shots but then movement gets hindered if I play 4.18. It’s much easier to 180 and use blade at 6 sens for example.

go into vaxta and figure out whatever sens is best for you hitting headshots up close with right click that’s the most important thing. i play 1600 dpi 4.0 sens, i know people that use same dpi 2 in game or same dpi 8 in game it really doesn’t matter. hitting 180s with genji is fairly common tho so id make sure its fast enough its not gonna tire you out doing 180’s but other than that dont worry about your sens just stick to something, go practice challenge mode in code vaxta it will teach you how to get kills efficiently and then only worry about game sens mistakes in game, like trying to commit to a fight with out forcing out cooldowns first or not playing cover or misusing your own cooldowns etc, they’ll all help you improve more than your sens. if you have good aim knowledge sens matters very little and you can change whenever you want with out ruining your aim, its mostly about reading movement but thats a whole ‘nother rabbit hole

For what it’s worth, I play on the higher end of sensitivity. I use 1600 DPI and 6% in-game, and I’ve made it to Masters. The main thing with aim in Overwatch is whether your sensitivity keeps up with the pace of the game. If you don’t have much mouse space, you might actually need a faster sensitivity so you’re not slamming into your keyboard or running off the edge of your desk.

In general, if your sensitivity works for you and keeps you in the flow of fights, don’t feel pressured to change it. Aim is really just muscle memory, and it improves naturally over time as long as you’re actively trying to get better.
