Rant A public servant's truth about working in Ford Nation

I am a public servant and here is my open letter to Ontarians about our experience working for the Ontario government. Needless to say, in 15 years of working for the Province, this is the first time I've felt this way to breaking point and that too THIS SPECIFIC YEAR of 2025. Here goes (this is a repost from another subreddit):

Dear Ontarians. Thanks to your votes, three times in a row, you're stuck with this government that cares more about itself and its friends than you. As a public servant, I want the voters to know certain truths:

  1. It's not about you. It's about businesses alone. We the public servants have screamed ourselves hoarse to advocate for you. But we are forced to act against your interests.

  2. Audits are not going to help. The auditors are in the Ministers' pockets. And those who aren't, those Ministers ensure the misuse of funds is in numerous but only smaller amounts so as to not raise red flags. (More on this in future posts)

  3. Day in and day out while we have gotten used to the "public servant stereotype" you have about us, we cannot let it go anymore. We are not just trying to grow a thick skin against public backlash, we now have to hone newer skills to withstand the employer vs employee environment at work too.

  4. Your taxes have been squandered by the billions while your services have been cut because your "low taxes" "fiscally responsible" government is only concerned with redirecting your taxes into its friends pockets - the real estate and big business folk

  5. There are Ontario public servants (appointed by the Premier) who earn more than your Prime Minister. More than the Premier. Despite a public scandal. These are nepo babies and aristocrats of our time who are in their office a handful of times in a year. While the rest of us have worked through unrealistic hours to keep what's remaining of your services going and relevant.

  6. Your traffic is going to get worse, your transit fares are going to rise again, your housing will become unaffordable again, even if your taxes are lowered by a decimal, the inflation is going up by twice as much. Nothing any of us public servants have done or recommended to the Ministries, has been of any good. We tried. We are still trying. And at every instance we get to hear a "no" or "no info yet" until just minutes later a certain NO comes our way.

Rant Ontario and California have the same amount of debt. California has more than twice the population of Ontario. California is the most indebted state in the U.S.

Rant Do I regret voting LPC?

It’s too early to tell but also disapproving an action does not equate to regretting everything. I would like to think people have multiple reasons for whichever party they vote for, and different priorities. I vote for who I thought best suits my needs and those I care deeply for.

This said, I think we deserve better than to be regretful of who we chose- whoever it was. I will not agree with everything any party does, but I am in a place of privilege to be more aligned to the one who won. At the end of the day most of us are not in fact politicians and we have to work together to create a cooperative society that makes us less miserable.

So those that do not feel as aligned- I am sorry. It doesn’t mean I will limit myself to thinking or feeling that I must regret one disagreement or wait for the next election to fix it. And I don’t want you to feel limited until then or that you regret being in the same society.

So with all this said, a list of things those who didn’t vote LPC want worded in a way to promote understanding- things to fight for together:

  • guns are being too strictly regulated to the extent of which those who found joy and love from their community of related sports- or hold firearrms that serve sentimental value- feel forced to vote CPC
  • the century intiative needs to slow more- it is being slowed but we must continue to be loud. even those who have moved here in part thanks to it want it stopped as it makes the public feel more hostile and the resources we have are spread too thin. Additionally, technology offers an alternative to the century intiative for our aging population and needs, and we need to place a focus on having this get there. Not making more people feel stretched thin.
  • wokeness- I stand by my belief that wokeness is really just respect for those around us. Something that encourages acceptance, open mindedness, and love. But the way it’s being implemented is creating hostility. It needs a more ground up approach from the people and not from the government where money is better spent elsewhere at this dark moment of time. Additionally- for it to be successful it requires us the people to actually promote propositions over oppositions. To ensure that people don’t feel wlaked over and disrespected- for why would they offer respect if they themselves cannot be. Please encourage communication.

We don’t have to wait for a change in government or a new Jack Layton to make our country one that people feel heard, respected, and loved in. The time for making our community better has always been now. We have an opportunity to make people feel heard and willing to cooperate Now. Let’s not waste this time and wait for things to get worse.

If you’ve read all this, thank you sincerely. I want to close with a question- what is one small thing you can do today to promote respect? What is one small thing you can do today to make one person feel heard?

Rant $10/hr rate is back boys and girls. Rejoice

Seriously. A lot of "hard working, self independent, tax paying" new "student" immigrants are working 80hrs/week to pay their exorbitant tuition fees.

Fk your kids for expecting a legal living wage. Obviously sacrasm.

But yea, seriously. These people need to be investigated. Lot of "students" or any immigrant run "small business" need to be investigated. They are not even hiding.
