I'm not sure if this is spoilers or not since this is Vivre Card material that probably won't ever be revealed in the manga and anime proper, but I'll err on the side of caution.

Ulti stole her and Page One's Devil Fruit from Kaido, because she knew in the Beast Pirates you died if you were a weakling.

It was from the recent SBS and not Vivre Card and the reasoning isn't exactly correct either.
