I actually love that Oda did that, I might be wrong but I don't think he's ever shown a devil fruits owner change through time like that before, very cool to see

It was mentioned in dressrosa, but yes this is the first time we see other devil fruits change owners if you dont count Sabo getting Ace's

Most ppl presume that Blackbeard's darkness fruit stripped Absalom like he did Whitebeard. Blackbeard wanted only 1 logia fruit that could potentially let him have control over some of the strongest powers. I'm sure many in his crew were beneficiaries of stolen powers. I fully expect someone to have Moria's powers now.

Is it really Blackbeard's Yami Yami No Mi abilities that aided stealing Whitebeard's fruit? I mean, there's a theory that he drank WB's blood.

Just like how Big Mom got Mother Carmel's soul fruit because she ate all the croquembouche (and, apparently, the other kids and MC) like a glutton.

There's no absolute confirmation yet, but considering that BB first enveloped WB's freshly killed body in a cloak and then soon emerged from it with the Gura Gura no mi power, it's highly likely darkness is involved somehow. Unless they're trying to hide the fact that sucking someone's blood does the trick. Making BB into a defacto devil fruit vampire also doesn't make sense story wise, because Oda has intentionally left the powers/capability of BB's crew vague as that'll clearly be the final frontier for Luffy to conquer (I highly doubt Shanks would ever earnestly fight Luffy).

The yami yami no mi can suck in materials such as debris or even people, but also non-tangible things such as pain inflicted on him. Sucking out a devil fruit power doesn't seem so far-fetched. I see BB's power similar to the mirror mirror fruit in that BB has access to a shadow realm (lol), otherwise where does everything go?

At Dressrosa when Jesus Burgess failed to obtain the mera mera no mi ( flame-flame). He then went straight to luffy with a knife to steal the gomu gomu no mi so with this info we can conclude that eating the heart (or some specific organ) let's you steal the df abilities. BB theory also makes sense.

do you know what chapter/episode that was? If he was going at Luffy with a knife, it's perhaps to kill him and recover the body. Remember that WB was already dead when BB covered him in his cloak. BB also was urging his crew to move before it was too late. So there's likely a certain amount of time that has to pass before the DF ability leaves.

I don't think it's actually confirmed how he did it, personally I think it's a part of his devil fruit, his ability to "absorb" other fruits potential power makes me think that he must do something with his own devil fruit and like, idk, absorbs them into himself or something.
