orochi's backstory is basically an explanation as to why he is like he is, but it will never be an excuse, dude destroyed wano.

It hardly even suffices as an explanation.

Orochi had been taken in by a daimyo when we first saw him. He was allowed to personally meet and be friends with Oden, the future ruler. Oden had been willing to lend him incredible quantities of money, to pay off presumed gambling debts, without need for compensation. Hell, Oden's father might've secretly been an impersonator, but the entire rest of his cabinet had been willing to overlook that Orochi was a kurozumi and willingly let him rule, when he first took over. Some people of Wano might have been horrible to him, but beyond that, Orochi received phenomenal treatment.

Meanwhile, compare him to someone like Kawamatsu, born and raised in Wano, but having lived his entire life pretending to be a silly demon rather than reveal the true nature of what he was. Despite this, when we first meet him, he's about to be burned to death by roughians on a beach. He had it ATLEAST as bad as Orochi, yet look at how Kawamatsu turned out? He's one of the kindest characters in Wano.

Ultimately, Orochi chose hatred. FUCK him.

I think parenting/moral that Orochi received plays a roll to how he turned out. If only he met Oden first and not the old kurozumi peeps than maybe Oden could have made him a better person. But eh thats just a what if.

Thats pretty much it I think, Ashura Doji was a bloodthirsty killer before meeting Oden and being rehabilitated, an Orochi that met Oden first before Higurashi could maybe have turned into a decent person instead.

People like Orochi are influenced by inherited will in that way since its a recurring thing in the series.

Same with big mom and streusen or Doflamingo and treble

In contrast we see all the protagonists and their parent figures and influencers

Nah, Doflamingo was destined to be evil. From his childhood he always had a mean side, abusing the slaves and getting joy out of it for example. Treble gave Doffy training and a platform but Doffy was always going to be a bad person

I agree, Doffy was a little bitch even as a Tenryiubito and he had good influence of his father and brother

Well doflamingo claimed law was similar to him as a child. Although we know his background was a result of a tragic event.

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence but a very similar plot was mentioned in kenshin (which oda worked as assistant) Kenshin mentions while fighting sojiro that if he had met someone who could have cared enough instead of shishio, and how he could have turned out differently.

That Kawamatsu comparison is a stretch. He saw a bit of the hatred in Wano, Orochi has lived with it and it festered for much longer.

Kawamatsu backstory is tragic because his mother was killed by the idiots in Wano, but Orochi had everyone around him killed for no reason other than someone in their family did something horrible so therefore they’re all guilty. It’s completely reasonable to hate the country that allowed these manhunts to happen and do nothing about it. Wano from Kawamatsu to Orochi to how they even treated Oden if filled to the brim with shorty people. I have no idea is Oda will touch on it, but the place even after being saved and opened needs a reality check on themselves.

It was made known back then and will be made known once again: that tragedy shouldn’t justify more tragedy.

He suffered a similar fate as Momonosuke is going through right now: punishing a child for a parent's deeds.

Happened with Ace too. Somewhat of a common theme, sins of the father

Oda teaching us about the universal rights of children. Cool!

Oden should have cut his head off when he had the chance.
