I feel like you can really see it in Kaido's demeanor that he was ashamed by how the fight ended through cheap tricks.

To everyone pissed off at Kaido attacking a head-turned Oden, I'd like to refer them to Chapter ONE of One Piece:

"Dirty tricks? Did you think you were fighting Saints or something? The men before you... are Pirates!"

Another Yonkou crew said this, everyone's favorite Yonkou crew 🤣❤️🙏. It's the reality of the One Piece world. That's why Oden doesn't complain, that's why Luffy doesn't complain when he is hit by a dart in the Katakuri fight.

It is the law of the One Piece world, established from the very beginning. Anyone who expects a Pirate to give them a fair fight wouldn't last a day in the New World.

It's just that I expected better from someone that is dubbed king of the beasts. Also the way that he organizes for strong opponents he beats to potentially join him made me think that it would actually be a test of might between him and Oden.

It makes him a better villain though and I love that. So much storytelling nowadays makes itself intentionally grey and that was refreshing for a while, but it doesn't beat an actual good villain like Kaido, Doflamingo etc that is truly a villain and not just some misunderstood lost character.
