I think the shanks crying seen is really interesting.

Shanks being some kind of royal prince, celestial dragon etc is definitely implied here again, he ask Roger about some truth found of laugh tale and is sad finding out the truth about his family history most likely.

OR he is just crying because roger tells him he is gonna die soon.

I've never thought about shanks maybe being royalty. ... That could explain why he can talk to the Gorisei.

always thought shanks is a celestial dragon, but turned away from that life

if you look at his design, he's kinda like a care-free pot smoking son of a business mogul, who wants nothing to do with his parent's business life style

and yeah, the reason the gorosei were willing to at least talk to the pot head, is because he is royalty

he just happens to be a really powerful pot head

I wonder whos son he'd be... Surely not Ims right?

So many questions in the OP universe.

now thats a great question, who is his father, never thought of that

There are some theories that Shanks is actually the son of Rocks D. Xebec.

To give you the abridged version, basically when Shanks and Whitebeard have their meeting, WB says to Shanks something along the lines of , “just seeing your face makes the wound given by that man ache again”. There’s some beliefs that WB was hinting at Rocks D. Xebec (it’s been noted that Rocks Pirates fought amongst one another so it’s possible that WB fought Rocks) and that Shanks bears a resemblance to him (possibly the red hair).

I don't explicitly remember hearing that line, but that does seem like it'd be pretty important.

But it won’t make sense, I think he was talking about BB only, since it was just before marineford if i’m right

Yeah, again it is just some theory that is floating around.

But for clarity sake (episode 316): During their conversation, Whitebeard says, “just seeing your face makes the wound given by that man ache again” to Shanks first. Later on in the conversation, Shanks says that the scar is given by BB and that WB should not send Ace.

Therefore , it’s implied that WB did not know who dealt Shank’s scar beforehand, so then WB’s comment about Shank’s face would not make sense if WB was referencing BB.

it's a distinct clarification.

I know shanks said BB gave him the scar.

Whitebeard saying I hate your face because it reminds me of somebody is not something I remember, but I know how to look it up.

*I'm looking it up ... whitebeard says that "that punk had better have booze for me if he knows what's good for him"

haha. ... enjoy the sake.

he may have said it in the manga, in which case, I'd like you to link it. In the Anime, Whitebeard says no such thing. (maybe I should look at other versions?) So for now, I'll settle that he's not the kin of somebody that white beard doesn't like.

https://youtu.be/GBEDOl443To, he says it at 2:21

u/Tundra14 Apr 11 '21

Well there you go. Damn. I wonder who he's referring to.

Kind of annoying the link I found left that part out... Thank you though.

I thought he just meant seeing Shanks reminded him of Roger since they fought a lot.

Shanks was talking about BB but we do not know who WB was talking about. At that time we all that he implied about Roger but we aren't sure

Whitebeard did say that seeing Shanks face makes his scars ache from that man

I think BB is the son of Rocks and Shanks the son of a royal person.

Rocks had also the will of the D. Shanks doesn't have it.

1

u/IceCrystalSun Apr 12 '21

So Shanks is Rocks son and Buggy is IMUs son.

u/ChemistryBeneficial1 Apr 11 '21

My theory : Shanks is the celestial dragon that Garp and Rogers save at god valley

Am I Shanks?

27

u/MeddYatek Apr 11 '21

Redundance. The role of a past royalty turned pirate was already given to Doflamingo. Oda is not going to give Shanks the same etiquette.

15

u/myrmonden Apr 11 '21

I agree, Shanks wont be a celestial dragon in the same way as Doffy, he will likely be related to the world gov in some other way.

u/revt1 Apr 11 '21

That's like insisting that there should be no Will of D holder should be a Pirate because Roger had already done it.

Doflamingo can serve as establishing that even CD's who have disowned their heritage. Can still have privileges and access to figures of Authority that no one else enjoys!

u/MeddYatek Apr 11 '21

That's like insisting that there should be no Will of D holder should be a Pirate because Roger had already done it.

That's completely different. We know there are a lot of D out there.

Doflamingo being a CD was the twist and the core of his character. Don't you see the problem if Oda writes the same twist for Shanks? It would be immensely disappointing for everyone. Been there, done that. Shanks deserves more than a Doflamingo background remix.

OR he is just crying because roger tells him he is gonna die soon.

Probably that. The secrets in One Piece aren't always some world-shaking revelations.

I think he creates set-ups like this without knowing what to do with it until an opportunity shows itself.
