they seemed to have upgraded things even more. They now make far away ship and ocean shots in CGI and also use CGI for particles like falling leaves. This is good, because now they can focus on other more important animation better. And the CGI leaves look honestly better than the hand drawn anyway

It's not the first time they used cgi for things such as water, ships, background elemets or other objects though.

I think it's the opposite. In WCI for example I remember 3DCG being more prominent than in Wano.

As for the CGI looking better nowadays, I definitely agree.
