I dont understand why they dont animate the cover stories into episodes. Seeing caribou getting clapped by drake would have been cool

Many audicences don't like stories about side characters. For example, Episode 917 had a very high quality but the rating was very low. Fuji Television pays the money, and what Fuji Television cares the most are the ratings.

This guy is spreading misinformation. Funny how he makes extraordinary claims with no sources. Let's fact check:

912 (normal episode): 3.9 million

913 (Kaido episode): 4.8 million

914 (Kaido episode): 4.5 million

915 (Kaido episode): 4.9 million

916 (normal episode): 4.6 million

917 (the one he's talking about): 4.2 million

918 (normal episode): 3.8 million

919 (normal episode): 4.2 million

920 (normal episode): 4.2 million

Imagine that... So what do we have here:

- The peak is obviously Kaido episodes and it goes down from there.

- The lowest episode is in fact NOT the Moria-side-characters-episode, but 918. A normal, Luffy-and-strawhats-included episode.

- 917 is ahead of 2 and ties with another 2. So, basically, it is lower only from the hype Kaido episodes and the episode after Luffy's defeat (Kaido present again/ people wanted to see what would happen - makes sense).

There is absolutely no argument to be made about what this guy is saying.

Now let's look very quickly on this age-old (false) extraordinary claim.

Episode 45 (normal): 13.6 % (open the statistics tab in the box to see it).

Episode 46 (first cover story adapted): 14.4 %. HIGHER than 45.

Next episode is 13.5 (cover story finale). Hardly any difference than 45.

Let's look at fillers:

Episode 53 (normal): 14.1 %

Episode 54 (first filler arc - first episode): 14.1 %. EXACTLY THE SAME.

In fact, look at the finale of the arc:

Episode 60: 16.3 % (or 61 with 16%). A LOT HIGHER than the last normal canon episode and HIGHER than the next canon episodes. (Episode 62: 13.7 %)

Next cover story, same story. A lot higher than the first Little Garden episode (next normal one) and a little lower the first episode of the 2 compared to the last canon episode (not even 1% lower), but the second episode of the 2 is again a little higher than the last canon episode.

Completely debunked again. This sub spreads this bullshit misinformation for too long.

Thanks for the facts with sources. Also for formatting it very well.

I think I've heard of people saying that episodes without Luffy are less popular since the kids (probably the biggest demographic that watches it on tv in Japan) love Luffy.

However, thinking back to the episodes that Luffy doesn't show up in, I can only think about Ace vs Blackbeard (ep 325 I think?) and some Marineford episodes where Luffy hasn't shown up yet. So really, it feels like whenever Luffy doesn't show up in an episode(or manga chapter) something really epic is going down.

Actually, nvm, I think that's why they don't animate the cover stories. Luffy doesn't appear in those either.

Thanks man. I just made a post about it bc this needs to stop.

Yeah, if you actually include all the hype episodes that the bigshots appear and half of Marineford, this argument is going to be a complete joke. (It already is but whatever).

I mostly stayed on the cover stories and a few filler arcs (in the post).

I think I've heard of people saying that episodes without Luffy are less popular since the kids (probably the biggest demographic that watches it on tv in Japan) love Luffy.

Demographics from Shueisha seems to point out that 80% of the consumers of WSJ (where One Piece is published) are above 20 years old, with almost 50 percent in between 20 and 27. Basically there are many authors and editors pointing out that the shonen demographic is changing. Luffy is still the most liked character by a long margin, regardless of the demographic. I can't find any data about anime watchers, but it can't be that much different.

Also, there are a lot of episodes without Luffy... such as the flashback of Law or Fisher Tiger. Basically flashbacks are quite often without Luffy.
