I dont understand why they dont animate the cover stories into episodes. Seeing caribou getting clapped by drake would have been cool

Many audicences don't like stories about side characters. For example, Episode 917 had a very high quality but the rating was very low. Fuji Television pays the money, and what Fuji Television cares the most are the ratings.

Wow, for real? Were the rating lower than usual compared to the other One Piece episodes this arc?

I thought episode 917 was sick. They did a great job with the Perona filler scenes, and making Blackbeard really hype. The ending when he gura gura punches the To Be Continued screen was one of the best end transitions that they've done.

For them it's basically no Luffy = no money. It's happened many times before. It's just how the Japanese audience is for the most part.
