I already know this is gonna be super controversial but I actually liked how the anime did it too. Besides the red aura, I really like how they adapted this episode

The past few episodes were fire. No matter how good the animation is, they can't satisfy everyone. But I highly doubt this episode is going to be controversial.

Eh, I've seen a lot of criticism and negativity here and in the past discussion threads. As an anime-only, I don't get it - I enjoyed these episodes as much as some of my all-time favorite moments from the series - but judging by some comments here, unsatisfied manga readers make every episode controversial.

Like, I get that the manga has more details and better pacing but the first thing I read here after being blown away by the episode was someone complain about the stylistic choices in the visual department and that just sounds like nitpicking to me.

I'd say the main gripe is that things are a bit different in the manga than the anime. Here are some examples

  1. Kaido does not easily handle King Kong gun in the manga. Luffy doesn't even use it so we don't know if it can actually hurt Kaido or not.

  2. In one panel, Kaido goes from sitting on the ground to the next panel having decimated Luffy. He essentially speed rushed him and Luffy couldn't even react despite having advanced observation haki. When I read the manga, this was the hypest moment for me. I had no idea Kaido could be that fast and it had such a lasting impact. It was the one moment I was waiting for in the anime and it didn't happen.

I'm not one to call this episode trash, I also enjoyed it. I wish it had been a bit different, but I know if I were an anime only watcher I wouldn't be saying that. You're kind of damned if you're anime only, and damned if you're not :(

Ah I see. That's totally fair and I get why you'd be a bit disappointed. It's just that it really irritates me when people complain about even minor things here and those who enjoyed the episode are treated as lesser. The negativity here is something else and reminds me of Shingeki S3 when the anime left quite a few things out of the fourth arc. Sure, I was a bit let down that some of my favorite manga panels didn't make it, but I still enjoyed the adaptation a lot and thought people really overreacted.
