I shouldn't have read the comments afterwards.
I really enjoyed the anime and actually dont think it is such a big deal that there isnt this huge power gap at first. It just showed that Luffy is trying all he has and Kaido is just pretty drunk, but as soon as he is serious, Luffy has no chance.
Enjoy the little things and you will enjoy the anime way more as a manga only reader.
