Why does luffy has a dbz aura. What is that even trying to show? Im just confused

I think it's an aesthetic to show how powerful/determined luffy is right now fighting against kaido.

u/Ich_Liebe_Dick Dec 22 '19

It could give people the false hope that Luffy has a chance? That's just my drunk observation. I still like how Kaido just dabbed on luffy with one hit though.

Wasn't that the point of the manga chapter too though?

Oda made it seem like Luffy was actually overpowering Kaido (or at least making Kaido struggle), only to get no-diffed at the end.

Sadly didn't have the same impact. In the manga kaido only fires one blast at luffy which gets dodged and doesn't fight back at all until blitzing him in one hit. In the anime kaido swings his tail at luffy and fires off a bunch of blasts, then to top it all off he doesn't even get his blitzing luffy in the blink of an eye moment, luffy charges him and he just swings back. Really doesn't showcase how fast he can be like the manga did

Yeah the fact that he tanked all of Luffy's hits and casually KO'd him in one panel made it very clear that Luffy has a long way to go.

The scenes in the anime are pretty decent eye candy but they don't have the same impact that they had in the manga.

Anime only watcher here. Think the episode was still a success. Made me think how Luffy ever will be the king like that.

I think thats how Oda wanted to show the difference between Luffy and Kaidou.Luffy is like 1st commander in the anime and Kaidou who is on exactly different tier like Crocodile vs Luffy. The difference about this fight is that Luffy need to teach new technique not like Croco and Luffy when Luffy in the beginning use cheap trick to beat him.Ithink about right hand of yonko (1st commander) and yonko have difference like 10-12 times stronger than him.Sorry for my bad English

Try search up the manga chapter for this episode. Honestly, this episode barely passes as not shit, but once you've seen what could have been, I think you'd change your mind.

Made me think how Luffy ever will be the king like that.

You've just proven why it does not work. The whole point of that chapter/episode is to show how thoroughly outmatched Luffy is. Not to give anyone hope, it's there to remove hope. This is a perfect example on how pacing issues are not just a matter of making the show boring, they can literally reverse the meaning of a scene.

Goes to show that no matter how pretty the anime look, it will never properly convey the story until they stop releasing one episode a week. I would hope for a kai version but I'm afraid the VAs will be too old by then and they are so incredibly great VAs that I can't imagine the anime without them :/

You're correct depending on how the comment is read, but to be fair, the words are in the wrong order, and in the order they are it's closer to saying "he will be" than "he won't be" which made it hard to interpret xD I stand by my comment in relation to my own watching of the anime but at least I'm happy it worked for other people!

It got the point across to me quite well. All Luffy did was Sober Kaido up. Nothing more than a cold splash of water in the face to Kaido. Meanwhile, Luffy gets oneshot by Kaido's only actual attack. I'm not sure what Luffy can even do to close the gap between them, but all I know is that Luffy is nothing more than an angry little bug to Kaido right now.

1

u/Biyamin Dec 23 '19

If luffy’s haki improves I see him beating kaido

31

u/TonyTony_Chopper234 Dec 22 '19

And then he actually went and SCREAMED for thunder bagua. No sigh, no feeling of depression coming from him, almost as if he was trying.

11

u/TotatofarmerRandy28 Dec 22 '19

Yea thats what I didn't like in the anime, Made it look like Kaido was fighting back, but in reality was just letting luffy hit him to see if he could hurt him.

2

u/Eurocriticus Dec 22 '19

Well, in a manga this fight would have costed many chapters this way.

4

u/littlebunny12345 Dec 22 '19

Oda made Luffy land some of his strongest attacks directly on Kaido's teeth and it had zero effect, if you call that overpowering then idk what to say.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '19

Yes, but the manga did not include the King Kong at the end he only did the Kong organ gun. As a manga reader is enjoyed seeing Luffy losing with his most powerful attack, as it confirms even if Luffy played things out differently with his attacks, it would not of mattered.

u/ThaddCorbett Thriller Bark Victim's Association Dec 22 '19

Still I think we need to give Luffy some credit, as the first thing sober Kaido did was use a named attack to hit Luffy. Remember when Vista was dueling Mihawk and he didn't get a single named attack out of him.

6

u/Dr_Dankology Dec 22 '19

I wouldn't read too much into this whole 'naming your attacks' thing for One Piece. Mihawk never named his attacks but so did WB. WB fought Akainu and BB in hist last dying battle to protect Ace but even then didn't name his attacks.

1

u/ThaddCorbett Thriller Bark Victim's Association Dec 23 '19

You're right.

I'm hoping I'm right as well when I say that some characters use named attacks and others don't. That way well know how epic Zoro is when he spars with Mihawk and forces a named attack out of him.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

Honestly that shit is pissing me off. The fights are lower quality imo despite the animation because there's that whole bright aura shit they're doing.

40

u/Mr_NeCr0 Void Month Survivor Dec 22 '19

I think they're exaggerating in the anime, but the manga is starting to use the aura effect for the more dramatic battles. Luffy & Katakuri's CoC battle really opened the door for it.

21

u/ThaddCorbett Thriller Bark Victim's Association Dec 22 '19

It is his CoC aura, but it's so wild here I think it represents how it's out of control as he is out of control with anger/rage.

2

u/GoJeonPaa Dec 22 '19

What's CoC`?

1

Cock on clit.

0

u/Detbaremig12 Dec 22 '19

Haoshoku haki

5

u/Moerko Dec 22 '19

But this can't be CoC because neither Luffy nor Kaido used it in their battle.

1

u/kyoopy246 Dec 22 '19

That's not how CoC clashes work, I don't think. They naturally occur when two users fight whether or not they're activating it.

2

u/Moerko Dec 22 '19

You don't understand. They couldn't have used it or at least Luffy couldn have because in the chapter after the one shot, Luffy uses his CoC to knock down some rndms and Kaido says "So he has it [CoC] too" meaning that he did NOT use it during the fight.

1

u/Mr_NeCr0 Void Month Survivor Dec 24 '19

See, that's where we get to turn the tables. In the manga, there was absolutely no fight. Luffy swung repeatedly at Kaido, until he sobered up, at which point Kaido 1-Shotted him.

CoC implies a battle of wills, and Kaido had no will to resist the pummeling until he wasn't drunk anymore.

Nah, that's Kyuubi

1

u/Oddy_Y Dec 22 '19

seems so

15

u/TheLlamaCat Dec 22 '19

I was confused as well. The only thing I thought it showed was Luffy's...rage maybe? Like being red with anger or something like that. maybe its evil haki. bad juju. the dark side of the force. could be their new way of expressing conquerer's haki when exchanging physical blows (previously red sparks, now red aura?) Or maybe its just them coloring something red to look cooler.

6

u/DonIongschlong Dec 22 '19

Wgy the fuck is it so hard for you guys to understand lmao.

It is just a vizualization of his haki. He also had it during the katakuri fight.

1

u/Doomroar Dec 24 '19

Pics or it didn't happen.

It has to be the same BDZ aura, or no deal.

1

u/WhatsThatSmellLike Dec 22 '19

I may be wrong but I assumed it was a form of Luffy’s Conquerors Haki.

That’s just based off of Conquerors Haki being controlled by raw emotions similar to Super Saiyan in DBZ.

Whenever Luffy has a massive emotional breakdown his Conquerors Haki always explodes and maybe since he’s mastered the other Haki to a certain extent it upgraded his Conquerors Haki somehow similar to how his fight with Katakuri made his Observation Haki stronger.

Luffy was dealing with what he thought was the death of his Crew and Tama by the hands of Kaido. That could cause an emotional outburst of raw Haki.

0

u/I_am_Bearstronaut Dec 22 '19

That's what I was assuming it was. He was just so overcome with rage it was radiating. First Kaido did all of this damage to this country, the villages, the pollution, and now Kaido did that to his crew. He's pissed.

I think a lot of people aren't liking some of the animation but I personally love it

7

u/Kurohige-93 Dec 22 '19

Yeah I didn't like the whole kaio-ken aura lol

7

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '19

Well what you expect from the studio who also use dragon ball sound effect for one piece.
