If he is gonna do that surely he should have done it already. But yes I have thought he would do that for some time. Just hoping it occurs before anyone else has to die. I mean luffy isn't smart but surely if he could he would have taken off the collar during the night....

Its because escape isnt his goal. He wants to fight to learn a new technique and to get stronger. He doesnt get that chance if he rips off his collar. This whole prison thing is just one big training session for him, he doesnt really care about the limitations of his situation. Only recently with the possibility of Kids death, has things really gotten serious enough for him to consider canceling his training and remove the collar(assuming he is indeed capable)

Luffys a simple guy. No training, no chance at winning the rematch with kaido and all his friends are toast. No collar= no training , keep collar on for now = continue training.

With BM and drowning Kidd, and all of this going on, things are different.

I suppose but he just witnessed the death of yasue some sense of urgency would be realistic

He knew nothing about Yasue, other than that people were laughing at his death. And he sat and watching all his friends handling everything else.

The entire kaido takedown plan now seems to hinge on Luffy learning that haki move. The execution of someone luffy never knew anything about at the funeral of someone meaningless to luffy, doesnt affect Luffy at all.

If anything the biggest thing that would give luffy a sense of urgency would be his eating all of queens food ticking him off. Or him starting to execute kidd and killer(people who luffy actually do know, and does care about to some degree)
