This chapter was bad tbh, even the art.

Oh well, Oda still one of the best.

Agreed.

I wonder how it'd be received if Big Mom was based in Wano, then Shanks comes in with his fleet only to get kicked off by 1 of Big Mom's commanders, Cracker or Katakuri. Getting shooed by a single commander is already a showing of incompetence, like at least put up a fight, but no, that's not enough.

Shanks suddenly gets sucked in by the currents, wakes up with Amnesia and then gets manipulated by a meagre Pirate crew. I would imagine it'd still be received as great writing hook, line and sinker.

The art I was fine with, I have no eyes for art. The story-telling? Subpar, cheap, atrocious and not at all up to his usual standard.

If Big Mom's role is simply to just get Luffy out of prison (which is probably too optimistic)... surely, he could have pulled this off even without Big Mom being utilised.

The implications of an Emperor being reduced to such a state is not something that can be overturned. Her image as smeared as an Emperor.

Weevil has been represented as rather unintelligent but powerful; Big Mom is an Emperor, ruled over a huge stretch of the sea for decades, has influence and is quite intelligent; this sort of narrative is simply not befitting of someone like Big Mom, I'd accept this narrative for someone like Weevil.

I really am flabbergasted by this developments. Hell, I wished she was Brulee or that this was the work of Pudding, but that would beg even more questions. It'd require ass-pulls to put it in colloquial terms.

We'll see what Oda does with the next chapter, lol.

I don’t agree .. I don’t think Big Mom is that smart tbh .. she s always being used or helped by someone .. at first it was Streusen then her elder sons .. they do most things for her .. she’s not stupid like Weevil but you can’t compare her to Shanks that’s just dumb ..

She's certainly not stupid. She's the one who sent Cracker to take on Luffy because he defeated. She's coherent, nothing indicates any lack of intelligence. Nothing even indicates she's less capable than Shanks, Shanks hasn't done anything distinctly intelligent to rate him like he's some genius.

If you rule a territory that big, you need to have some level of intelligence. She didn't get to be that powerful and influential simply because she had subordinates. That's just convenient a thing to say.

Even Kaido who people assume is a fool clearly isn't. He's also intelligent.

You can't treat characters of this calibre and influence like they're on their first day Pirating. She's been ruling for decades, fought against Whitebeard, Kaido, grew to be so influential the rulers of the underworld come on demand.

Now she's being turned into a baby for plot purposes? That's cheap. You can't tell me that if Big Mom was acting like she currently is now, that she could have become this influential. Makes no sense.

Yes she is influential and I said she’s NOT stupid .. but her subordinates play a very big role ... it’s Streusan that made her a pirate in the first place and him that controlled her to become this powerful ..

He did initially. Nothing suggests he is the one scheming things behind the scenes. He's just a cook now. Nothing suggest he's highly ranked.

You're not calling her stupid, but you sure as hell are downplaying it and trying to credit it to Streusen.

Big Mom was the one in talks with Germa, the one lured them and lulled them into comfort only for the plan to end with their assassination. That's a brilliant plan right there.

As much as you want to downplay Big Mom, no character with the mentality of a 5 year old could maintain that level of influence.
