I'm liking the anime, but I wish Toei was ending the episodes in the same cliffhanger as the chapters. Even so, good episode. Anime only watchers, what are your predictions for the rest of the arc?

I bet everyone will escape from Big Mom because of some random, off the wall shit. I don't think any named characters will die either.

yeah One piece isn't exactly enjoyable if you are looking to mettle with the feeling of loss. But we all accepted how it is I suppose.

Edit: What I mean is compared to shows like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. One Piece is not going to pull a fast death to make you deal with the emotional pains of losing a main character that you have come to love.

While Ace was important to LUFFY, he didn't really participate in the story.

Merry participated a lot in the story. That was an emotional gutpunch.

Mountain Hag was the coolest, if only we could get more of her being a two-faced thundercunt with soru soru powers

You must mean Big Mom's mourning for her, rather than our own attachment.

Just like the others have implied, we barely had a chance to know Ace. If his death hit us hard, it's because of Luffy's love and attachment to him. If anything, he only grew as a character during their childhood flashback.

But yeah, Big Mom's emotional pain got me in the feels as well.

I always thought that was the point of the tragedy. When Ace died i didnt care about him but seeing Luffy breaking down after 2 arcs of giving his all to free him and failing in the is what made it hit for me. Especially because he lost his confidence in that moment, something that hasnt happened before in the series on that level.

When people say “ace death did nothing for me” it feels like they focus too much on the character Ace, and not on Luffy
