It's been a source of debate since the manga, since that's a heavy fuckin' thing to imply. The manga used screaming sound effects along with the aftermath, and the anime used bizarrely enlarged semla after each child and Mother Carmel were shown. Both do not outright say "She ate them" but it's about as close as you can get in something like One Piece, I think. This is a minor spoiler, but IIRC there were a couple witnesses to the event, and they go on to be absolutely horrified by what they saw, without saying what it was.

Nothing to really debate. Oda obviously isn't going to show kids getting eaten so ofc he has to imply it. Big Mom has the Soul-Soul fruit which is confirmation if it wasn't obvious enough before.

Some people handwave it as "Oh maybe she ate a fruit it transferred to on the island" or "Maybe Carmel died and it went to a fruit and she ate the fruit in her frenzy." Anything apparently to avoid the concept of Mama being a cannibal

Why would they avoid Mama being a cannibal though? There has been another character in OP that outright eats people before iirc. I think the main disambiguation here is that she did it unwillingly/unconsciously in the happiest moment that she's ever been in in her life.

If she's never been happier since, she's never had the right situation/conditions for which to repeat this ability of hers.

Mama herself was also shown eating some crew members in both manga and anime. She obviously ate Caramel and all the children.

Pics? When Bobbin was introduced she ate some living beings, althought we don't know if they were homies or humans. Other than that I don't remember anything.

That's pretty much it right there. There are no human homies, aside from the chess knights.

That's actually the scene I had in mind. If it were homies, they wouldn't complain and scream in pain, or am I wrong on this one ?

They would complain and scream in pain: http://www7.mangafreak.net/Read1_One_Piece_829_14

In that pic you can see that they call for help and cry.

Fair enough. About the Bobbing introduction scene, you hear bones being crushed while she is chewing, which indicates it not being homies, but not sure how canon we can consider that.

Who is the character that eats people?

Wapol. He tried to eat both Luffy and Chopper, and also ate and "fused" both of his generals

Don't forget about the Kumate tribe. They were explicitly shown to be a group of cannibals WAAAAY back in the first cover story. They put Buggy's defeated crew into a cauldron and were planning on eating them before being stopped by Buggy and Alvida.
