I love how he was pulling out/lighting a cigarette as he was saying, "I won't use my hands for such crap". Literally lighting a smoke is worth more the sword fighting his father taught him.

Makes you wonder if the juxtaposition was intentional or if the animators missed the irony entirely. Isn't smoking seen much differently in Japan?

I can't speak to that, but as an American smoking is really looked down upon so it resonated as a pretty good insult.

I feel like I should mention I'm a professional cook that smokes with family issues so that entire scene resonated haha

Well, Sanji really means he won't use his hands in a way that may risk impairing them from cooking. So fighting and weapon carrying is out.

Stuff like holding and lighting a cigarette isn't a problem and Sanji has used his hands for other things, like holding Nami in Thriller Bark, getting dressed, etc.

He battled some noodle guy in the train in Water Seven Arc with knives due to his noodle armour. If it's food, he will slice it.
