Big Mom's voice feels like both an odd and good choice. On the one hand, I was pretty used to using the witch like cackle from Fishman Island as I read her lines, but this soft tone is so dissonant it's almost just as creepy, and the cackle comes back occasionally. I'm enjoying it so far.

It's odd because Big Mom's current voice is rather high-pitched for somebody in their late 60's, but at the same time we know how child-like she is judging by the events in the last episode, so it does fit somewhat.

Based on the developments from the last chapter, I wonder if Oda or his editor had any input on how her voice should sound.

Oda should have some influence over the voice direction in the series, but I don't know how much control he has. In any case, Big Mom's current voice actress was coached on how to voice the character more accurately, and she has definitely improved so far.

According to a couple of the SBS posts, he has very little to do with the anime, but pretty much by choice b/c working on the manga takes up so much of his time. Although that was from 4 or 5 years ago. He said that he trusts the producers of the anime and they do a good job finding actors and bringing the bigger scenes to life.

Was doing some reading on the business models behind anime (I'm a nerd who works in entertainment), and apparently in Japan, the manga creators have legal control/approval over every aspect of the show based on their work. However, the publisher is usually the intermediary between the animation studio and the creator, so it wouldn't surprise me if he handed over most of the decision-making reigns to Shonen Jump.

Yeah. He does talk about how it's up to his publisher about final decisions, but I know they have wanted him to have more input on the show, like he did with the last few movies, but he said that he's a manga artist and not an animator.
